...to anyone who might be out there on what appears to be a very
small mailing list.
I am a descendant of James Wayne and Elizabeth Rachel (Rhea)
Clair, who married during 1853 in Lucas County, Iowa. Their eldest
daughter, Mary Elizabeth, married Joseph Cyrus Miller and remained
in Lucas County. She was my great-grandmother.
Two sons, William Richard and Jasper Sylvester, died young.
The remaining children moved with their parents to Osborne/Rooks
County, Kansas, during 1878. Those other children were
Sarah Angeline McCoy, Clarissa Jane Mills, James Alonzo
Clair (ran away from home as a teen, fate unknown), Thomas
Kilby Clair, Robert Milton Clair, Walter Sanders Clair, Alvin
Erastus Clair, Hannah Zipporah Hockett and Charles Edward
Clair.
James Wayne Clair was a son of William and Mary (Sanders)
Clair, who may have been Rhode Islanders who passed
through Maine, New York and Ohio before arriving in Marion
County, Iowa, during the late 1840s. Although there were a
number of other children, I have substantive records only of
one of their older sons, Zolomon Jones Clair.
Would be delighted to hear from anyone interested in
this large, but elusive, family.
