Can you narrow down the county James N Claiborne & Whinnie Owen lived in? Once you get a county, the Courthouse will have records:
1. Check marriage records.
2. Check land records.
3. Military Record for James- he's the right age for Spanish American War (1896) & WWI.
4. Probate Records. If there was not a will, study the Probate minutes for Estate settlement.
You may need to contact a genealogical society in the specific county.
There were several distinctly unrelated Claiborne/Claborne/Clayburn/Cliborn/Clayborn families & often the spelling was changed or modified within the same generation or family, depending on literacy & allowing for transcriptions errors.
Whinnie could be Winifred/Winfred/Winnie,Wilhemina, etc. Some Counties have "early" birth records or delayed birth records.
Do you have siblings names for any of them. Sometimes a clue from sibs.
Check death certificate for parent names or other clues. www.familysearch.org.
Good luck!

K,
I see what you mean, it's a hard task to find any mention.
I've looked under all variants of Whinnie and Win, possibly a nickname? Other theory is that Ola was adopted by someone and was unsure of her parentage. I am assuming that Ola's death certificate has been completed accurately, not always the case. Are you confident of her parents names? Perhaps from verbal sources.
Rod

The only information I have found shows their daughter Ola Lee Caiborne(my great great grandmother) was born in Virginia on May 22, 1904. In 1940 Ola was married to Wort Aubrey Smith and living in Granville County North Carolina. I have no idea if they moved from Virginia since she did or what. There is Native American heritage on this side of my family, not sure who though...

I'm looking for information on my great great grandparents James N. Claiborne and Whinnie Owens Claiborne.
I am unable to find any records on Whinnie, but I believe they had lived in Virginia.
