According to the Genealogies of Virginia Families from Tyler's Quarterly Historical, William Claiborne's parents were Edmund Cleborne(abt 1556 - abt 1590) and Grace Bellingham (abt 1558 - abt 1594). This source also lists a brother Thomas, who married Frances Lowther. The description goes on to report that the controversy between young William and Calvert, Lord of Baltimore, stems from Calvert vying for young Frances Lowther's hand at the same time as William's older brother Thomas. It further attributes William's ties to Virginia to his mother's side. Is it possible that Edmund Cleborne had a brother "Thomas" (family name) and that is the "Thomas" that is sometimes listed as "William Claiborne's" father, because he raised/adopted young William after his parents Edmund and Grace died in 1594?
