Yes, I would like the name. I met two African American brothers on Providence Plantation in Natchez a couple years ago, I believe their names are Billy and Roy Claiborne. My father was born on Providence in 1894. Many African American families living there today go back generations, Providence was once owned by former slave and Congressman John Roy Lynch.

While visiting in Adams about 3 years ago, I meet several Claibornes there and I think that there was a contact person that I can give you that he could point you in the right direction. Would you like that persons' name?

Thanks Willie! I will make a note of this. My question is, why would Maggie's name change to pound? That would be my aunt and I know that she did marry, but not to a Pounds. Is there any where I can check?
Thanks!
Dan

You can find Anthony and Dora on the 1910 Bogalusa, Wash Parish census listed as "Antney Claborn," and you can find him and Dora on the 1930 census in Bogalusa listed as "Andrew Clayborne." There is a Maggie Pounds living next door to them, which may well be his daughter.

I do not know. I am working on this for a neighbor; she is 90 years old and would like to know about her family. She was born in Adams Co., MISS, but has lived in California for about 50-60 years. She is a descendent of Daniel Claiborne. I will ask her some questions.

I am part of the Mississippi Claiborne family that are Black. I have been searching to understand the genealogy of this family and have done some research, however, continuously have run into walls. I have posted a listing of the Clayborns on my site: http://trees.ancestry.myfamily.com/tree/14160238/person/67690537?pg=
Any assistance is appreciated!

>From what I have been able to gather, it appears that to be true, however, I have not been able to verify. I need to perform more research. It would be great to find out that this would be true.

Do you know if these Claiborne's are related to J.F.H. Claiborne and Martha Dunbar Claiborne shown in the 1880 census, Adams County, Mississippi? My grandfather, Ferdinand White and his siblings, Fred and Alice lived and worked for the family from the late 1850's through 1890's.
Thank You
Debra White Hayes

If this info is still of interest to you, you can find an Antony (sp) Claiborne on both the 1880 and 1900 census in Adams Co., Miss. His father is listed as Travis, and his mother as Poline (Pauline Divers), both born in Miss. This Anthony has several siblings: Eveline, Anna, Corena, Henderson, Fred and Mattice (Madison?). Travers (sp) Claiborne married Pauline Divers 22 Feb 1891 in Adams Co.; apparently she died in the late 1890s.
