This was posted by my cousin, Celeste, who passed away in 2006. I am trying to continue researching the family tree in her memory.

According to "Claiborne of Virginia..." by Dorman and Smith: Peter Woodlief
and William Cryer were mentioned as executors of Charles. Charles
Poythress married in 1739 to Catherine Crawforth in Prince George Co. Va. Catherine
was the daughter of Elizabeth Claiborne and Ralph Crawforth. Elizabeth's
brother William married Elizabeth Whitehead. Elizabeth's father was William
Claiborne III b. 1671 and died in 1705. His wife's name is unknown. He resided
at Romancoke in King and Queen County.
You might want to see this book at your library. It will give you sources
for all the generations he covered and it includes William CC Claiborne as
well.

I have noticed a message from someone related to W.CC Claiborne and his
wife Clarisse. And that they lived in New Orleans. Of course, I know of
the history of the famous W.CC Claiborne. My g-g g grandmother was
Elizabeth Claiborne Woodlief she lived in Virginia and was married to
Thomas Woodlief. One of their sons Devereaux J. Woodlief was my g-g
grandfather and his brother was Peter William Woodlief. Peter William
married Louisa Modeste deBouligney and they lived in New Orleans. I
believe that they were married around 1837 or 38, and they were married
in the St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter in New Orleans with an
8:00p.m. ceremony. Louisa's father was the U.S. Senator from Louisiana.
Dev. J. Woodlief's wife died very young and left him with two children
Thomas Jerome Woodlief and Harriet Modeste Woodlief (my g-g grandmother)
Harriet Modeste was taken to New Orleans to live with her aunt and
uncle, Peter William Woodlief and Louisa Modeste deBouligney. There was
a strong connection between the Claibornes and the Woodliefs, in Va. and
in New Orleans.I have been looking for the Claiborne/Woodllief
connection in New Orleans and any part of Louisiana. Peter William
Woodlief moved to Mississippi during the Civil War and then moved back
to New Orleans.
Does anyone have any information regarding these families.
Thank you,
