I don't any info on her death. He apparently married
Mary Logan in 1855. Three of the kids from William & Dricilla
are alive in the 1860 Pond Creek census. Here is a lnik to a Biographical Sketch of William Cliborne - it mentions Drucilla near the end.

Dorothy,
Do you know of a biography for John F. Gilbreath? I know he was a prominant Methodist minister in the area so I would assume there is something about him someplace. Also on his parents probably. Let me know. Thanks.

Jim,
These are my ancestors as well! Have you found any more information on Drucilla since you posted this? I found her and William in the census you mentioned. However, she is not listed with him in the 1860 census for Pond Creek Township, Greene County, Missouri. She must have died between 1850 and 1860 either in TN or Missouri. Any info on that?

Thank you for your reply , I took the Joseph from a book on VA marriages ,
_EDZIMM(a)aol.com_ (mailto:EDZIMM@aol.com) , replied and said that James or
Joseph was b. abt 1755 ,so he wasn't my Joseph.
Thanks Ernie
Thank you very much this rules out my Joseph. He came to America around 1750
, Three sons known. William Penn, b? Lemuel b. ? Alexander b. 1786 ,
Kanawha River Valley ,in present day WV

It is exactly as written in the Claiborne book. No doubt a typo they didn't
catch. The father, Buller was born in 1755 and married Martha Ruffin who
was born about 1765. There is no information on their marriage date. You can
get the book through and interlibrary loan more than likely.

From the Historical Register of Virginians in the Revolution by John H.
Gwathmey: page 152. Land Office Military Certificates, Buller Claiborne, late
major, Virginia State Archives (heirs James, Robert R, Sterling and Lucy who
married James Wright granted 5333 1/3 acres. ) You should be able to find some
information on that at the LVA site under Military Certificates. I have not
tried but suggest you do.
From Dorman/Smith's Claiborne book: Buller Claiborne 1755-1804 married
Martha Ruffin. He was a son of Augustine and Mary Herbert Claiborne
Children:
1. James married Sarah Brooking
2. Robert R.
3. Sterling married Jane Maria Rose
4. Son died young

Andy:
First, all of Augustine Claiborne's daughters are identified in that book
along with their marriages: Anne married Richard Cocke, Susanna mar. Frederick
Jones, Elizabeth married Thomas Peterson, and Lucy Herbert married 1st John
Cocke and 2nd William Thompson. His book is sourced rather well on each of
the lines and the individuals.
I have seen that a Lanier married a Lucy (Claiborne) Hunt listed in several
posting when I did a google search. Pritchards' "The Virginian" covers this
theory. Suggest you go to google and search "Benjamin Lanier" then hit the
advanced search button and put in Claiborne. That will bring up the various
finds on the connection, one of which is the Virginian by Pritchard. There
are a number of hits so you can search and discuss with those but if they don't
have a source for their information I would be leary about the fact.
I looked carefully in my Claiborne book but found nothing on a Hunt in the
index. The various theories is they think that she was a Claiborne based on
the names of her first two children, one Augustine and one Herbert. However
no proof has been found that she is a Claiborne as far as I can see. And, if
you remember one of the naming pattern theories is that the first son is
usually named after the father's father and second son after the mother's father
and that may be why the theory developed.
There are many individuals with the first name of Claiborne in the 1700s
that were not connected to the Claiborne family but were named as such in honor
of William Claiborne who died 1676/9.
Hope this helps a bit and good luck on your search.

Thanks for responding to my query. I'll try to respond to each of the items
you mentioned. For the life of me, I can't remember where I got the birth
date of Miss Claiborne. The other information came from the Laniers of
America by Louise Ingersoll and published in the 1950s. Now the family of
Augustine Claiborne and Mary Herbert is intriquing. I had already found that family
and wondered as to the possibility of them being the parents of Miss
Claiborne. It's interesting that Benjamin Lanier and Miss Claiborne named one son
Herbert and one Augustine. Have marriages for all the daughters of Augustine
and Mary been found? Now even more intriguing is that the descendant of
Augustine and Mary, Robert Claiborne, maried the granddaughter of Benjamin Lanier
and Miss Claiborne, Emily Ann Lanier. Emily is the sister of my gr gr
grandfather Benjamin Wilkins Lanier. Their parents were Benjamin Lanier and Susan
Hunnicutt. All these Benjamins make it difficult to follow. Now !
Emily's brother Henry Mason Lanier was also a merchant, first in Georgia and
later in Russell Co., AL. I am going to ask someone who has a copy of
Ingersoll's book handy to look up the reference to Miss Claiborne because Mrs.
Ingersoll said that she did not know who her parents were but that she had a
brother and she named the brother but I've forgotten what it was. I have copy
of Ingersolls book but I illadvisedly loaned it to another genealogist up in
Alabama and she claims that she can't find it. Needless to say, I'm not a
happy camper about this situation. The responses I've gotten to my query are
the first glimmer of hope I've had that eventually we'll find out who Miss
Claiborne was. I'm also posting this on the Lanier mail list and hoping that
some of the other descendants from this line can join in. I'm not familiar
with Louisiana Lanier who married Thomas Buller Claiborne of the same line but
wouild be willing to bet that she is a fairly close cousin to Emily!
and Henry Mason. Look forward with great anticipation to further res
ponses about this family.
