Karen:
Do you believe that the parents of 1) Phillip Claiborne b.15 July 1773
(Brunswick Co) and George Ravenscroft b.10 July 1782 (Brunswick Co Va) are the
children of Thomas B. Claiborne and Mary Clayton? Do you also have the following
children for Thomas and Mary: James (1775); John (1778); Thomas B, Jr (1780);
Devereaux Jarratt(1785); and Augustine (1787)? That means 7 children for
Thomas and Mary...do you have that?
If we are talking about the same Phillip and George as above, I do have deeds
and a will for Phillip as well as census information. I also have some
information on George and all the others, especially D. J. Claiborne which is my
line. Frankly, I have information on all the above children. Do you know who
the parents were of Phillip Claiborne who married Martha J. Claiborne in
Brunswick Co Va on May 30 1818 ?

Right
now I am working on the children of Thomas B and Mary Clayton. I can trace
back to two of their children, Philip and George Ravenscroft Claiborne due
to a Claiborne/Claiborne marriage. In that case you would trace back to
their sibling. I have done original research in Tennessee, but never in
Virginia. Once I finish my research on Phillip and GR's descendant, I will

Please help a very confused Claiborne researcher:
Am looking for evidence that Burnell Claiborne was the s/o either Leonard
Claiborne (1701-1785) OR Capt. Thomas Claiborne 1684-1732. Also looking for
evidence of the wife of Burnell/Bernard Claiborne's wife.
Have found his wife listed as
1. Hannah Ravenscroft Poythress
2. Georgianna Ravenscroft Poythress and even
3. Martha Ravenscroft Poythress.
The above information has come from:
1. Batte papers of the LVA (sources for this information are from printed
genealogies or bible records)
2. "Colonial Families of the US" again questionable sources
3. Bible Record of the Claiborne family from the LVA --their source was a
Bible printed in 1885..which was a long time before the 1700-1721 when Burnell
was supposed to be born and states he is the son of Capt Thomas C & Anne Fox.
4. "The Virginians" by Pritchard who states that Burnell is believed to have
been the son of Leonard Claiborne (& 1st wife Martha Burnell )s/o Capt Thomas
& Anne Fox.
His source: "Claibornes of Virginia" by Dorman.
Anne Fox supposedly died in 1733
Martha Burnell supposedly died in 1720
Burnell's first child, Martha Claiborne was born in 1744/5
Burnell's second Child, Thomas B. Claiborne born in 1755 m. Mary Clayton
Have found only few actual records mentioning Burnell:
(1. 1745 Prince George Co land patented on White Oak Swamp bounded by Capt
Francis Poythress, Fitzgerald and Stewart
(2. 1745 Prince George Co as witness to a deed of Fitzgerald to Leonard
Claiborne Sr, another witness was Leonard Claiborne Jr.
(3. 1763 - Prince George Co as Witness to a deed of Leonard Claiborne Jr to
Leonard Claiborne. Sr..land patented by Leonard, Jr...other witnesses
include, Thomas Claiborne, Martha Claiborne and Richard Claiborne among others
Have found no evidence to indicate that he married a Hannah Poythress..a
Hannah Poythress was widow of Francis Poythress and was still living under that
name until at least 1767. Have never found any actual record listing a
Georgianna Poythress/Claiborne.
I am related to the Claibornes through Dr. Devereux Jarratt Claiborne
marriage to Harriet Edmunds. However beyond that I am about as confused on these
Claibornes as I can get. I am not even sure who the father of DJ Claiborne was,
as the Bible Records so differ from the genealogies and published material.
I do have multiple deeds and records on Dr. Devereux Jarratt Claiborne from
courthouses in Brunswick, Greensville and Dinwiddie.
Would so appreciate ANY HELP in deciphering this Capt Thomas/Mary Clayton
Claiborne line with some supporting records before or after their marriage.
Thank you for any help you might be able to offer and your patience in
reading my confusion.
