Thanks for your response to my query. The reason we are looking for documentation of Mary Claiborne and Robert Harris is that although this marriage is referred to over and over no one seems to have proof in fact we cannot prove that William Claiborne even had a daughter named Mary. John Fredrick Dorman a well respected ,Virginia Genealogist who wrote the recent Claiborne Book does not reconize Mary.
Also we have not been able to document Edward Rice for the generation in which he would have been the right age to marry Mary. We are beginning to think that years ago generations were confused and that that information has be passed down over the years.
I have G.M. Claibornes book and the books w ritten by Dr. Malcome Harris buy still no documentation in any of these.
Unfortunately genealogy is only valuable if documented.
G.M. Claiborne's research is faulty.
I GIVE UP!!!! How many time must one repeat themselves to those who will
NOT do their own research. Best of luck to this mail list.

I don't have documentation of that marriage. However they are in my family records, they did exist. G. M. Claiborne's research in 1910 of the Claiborne Family for the Jamestown Festival states that Mary was born in or abt 1645 at Chaicone, Northumberland County, VA died 2/9/1709 at Glen Carin, Hanover County, VA. Supposedly her gravestone is in a church cemetery there. She married Robert Harris and there aere 2 known sons, Robert, Jr and William. Her second marriage was to Edward Rice and one known son, Edward, Jr.

Brenda, i did a quick look through and didn't find the name, but that don't
mean she's not in there somewhere, or maybe one of William Divine Claybourn's
grandchildren, or a child of his brother's. William Divine migrated to
Jefferson Co. Illinois, Do you have any more names, dates or locations, the
Claybourn's were a pretty large family and scattered everywhere. If I find
anything I'll post it for you Evelyn
Hi LaRae,

I noticed in a post you listed William Divine Claiborne. I've desperately
been trying to find the parents of Clara Divine Claiborne 1859-1932. Such
a coincidence (Divine) being their middle name. Please let me know if you
have her name in you file. I'll gladly share information.
Thanks

Paula, most all the spelling was done by the census takers, and they spelled
it however it sounded to them, so you can find various spellings--My
Claybourn's are from N.C>Tn.>Ky>Southern Il>Ark. From Ephraim Claybourn/Mary
"Polly" Browning of Knox Co. Tn. and Allen Co. Ky where they died 1850's.
Ephraim's father was Joshua Claybourn-d. abt. 1799 Robeson Co. N.C, 2 of his
children were Sarah "Sally" Claybourn 1785 m James Brown, and Ephraim
Claybourn-b 7 Dec. 1788 N.C
d. 11 May 1850 Allen Co. Ky.had nine children-Sarah W., Nancy J., Martha
E.,Catherine E., Mary E., James Thompson,*Luticia A., William Divine, and
John B.
If any names ring a bell with anyone, I;d be glad to exchange inflrmation.

Hi all,
I'm forwarding on this note from our newest subscriber....anyone research
Claiborne family in Tennessee or Texas?
LaRae, listmgr.

I'm just beginning genealogy search for Claiborne surname. Does anyone have
proven evidence from William C. C. Claiborne descendents to early 1900's? Or
any other info would be greatly appreciated.
So far, I have my husbands' father, Palmer "Ray" Smith Claiborne (b.
1/26/1913, d. 12/ 29/1997. He ( Ray) had one brother, Charles, ( born about
1915, died about 1990). Their father was Irvin Palmer Claiborne, worked for
railroad in Texas, died about 1930. He came from Dyersburg, Tenn., but in
researching Dyer County births, deaths marriages, I'm not yet able to piece
together ancestors.
Is it possible (verifiable) that spelling variations took place thru the
years? (Claiborn, Claibourne, Claborne, Claborn, Claburn, Clayburn, Clayborn,
Clayborne, Cliborn, Cliburn, Clairborne) Are they all the same family??? And
I've found Claybo, Claybough, too. Very interesting, but puzzling.
Thank you for your help, advise, etc.
Sincerely,
Paula Claiborne
