Hi,
My name is Kathy Baldwin. My maiden name was Claibourn.
I have never seen the name spelled this way outside the immediate family.
Here's a mini version of our family tree:
Everett B.Claibourn ( my father) b.10/17/1914 d. 1968
Born in South Dakota
Ernest H. Claibourn (Everett's father) b.11/27/1892 d. 11/1979
Born and raised in Kansas.
Harvey E. Claibourn (Ernest's father) b.1864 d.1950
Born the year the Civil War ended in Kentucky.
Payton Claibourn (Harvey's father) b. 1842 d. 1916
Owned a tobacco farm in Kentucky.
Chewed tobacco from the age of 2 until the day he died at 74.
Is there any way to trace further back?
Have you seen anywhere where the name is spelled like mine?
I figured that all the Clayburn derivatives came from the same source
being misspelled by different immigration officials and illiteracy.
Email me if you know any information on this subject.
Best regards,
Kathy Baldwin (Claibourn)

I don't have a lot of information to go on here, but I'm hoping someone will be able to send me in the right direction. My great grandmother was Laura Elizabeth Claiborne(sp?). She married Pasley O. Rippy. They lived in Sumner Co. Tennessee. Her mother was Martha Jane Richardson. I don't know anything about her father except the last name and don't know the correct spelling. She was raised by a step father and went by his last name(Joe Wilson 1855-1933) on most documents that I've found. Martha Jane Richardson is buried in Westmoreland, Tn in an old graveyard beside Hwy 31 near Garretts Creek. The Claiborne was said to have gone to California.
If anyone has any info. on a Claiborne who married a Martha Jane Richardson(1866-1913) please let me know. I would like to trace back this part of my family. I have heard that this Richardson is Indian, but don't have anything to confirm it yet.
