I am not sure about your information on William Claiborne. I also have
him married to Elizabeth Boteler (Butler) about 1635, but I do not have him
with the same parents. I show his parents as being Thomas Cleyborne and
Sarah Smith, married November 21, 1598, Parish Registry of Stepney (Dunstan
Church), Co. of Middlesex (England?) and his father being Thomas Cleyborne.
I may be way off base. Can anyone help me?
Can anyone provide any other information? I am related to William
Claiborne through his daughter Jane Claiborne, who married Thomas Brereton on
February 10, 1657. My family has carried the Brereton name on, with my
brother being named Brereton C. Jones, Governor of KY 1991-95.
Unfortunately, politics is a trait or disease that we might have inherited
from William Claiborne, in that my father was a state senator for two terms
in WV as I was also.
Sincerely,
Bartow Ned Jones

Yes, The Brerton line is in Dorman's book. But Mary is not. As far as we
can tell Mary was not the daughter of William Claiborne. She may have been
the aunt of my John of Dale Parish, Henrico Co. and the daughter of an
Edmund Cliborne who came over in 1635. We have several members of both
lines. Out president, Dr. Tom Sale is of the Mary Harris line. And William
Madison Harris is of that line, also. WE have a member who is of the Brerton
line. What can I look up for you??
My Claiborne line:
William & Elizabeth Butler
Thomas & Sarah Fenn
Thomas & Ann Fox
Leonard & Elizabeth Barber
Richard & Mary Hamlin
John & Susannah Stokes
Sarah & John Evans
Would especially like to exchange info on Barber & Hamlin lines. Anybody
know anything about the Martha Nunnally/Munnally who was Mary Hamlin's
mother?

Ann, would you look up in the Dorman book to see if the Jane Claiborne
who married Thomas Brereton is followed, also was Mary Claiborne (Rice)
who married Robert Harris, indeed the dau. of William, sister to Jane?
Thank you. clare

Judy I have been trying to send you a message and the have all come back to me saying recipient unknown, so I am sending this to the list.
I would really appreciate the line of William Claiborne. I have been searching for Richard's father for years and am very anxious for his pedigree.
Anything that I can do to help anyone I will be happy to.

I am registrar for a group of people known as the
"Claiborne Clan". Formally it is "The National Society of the Claiborne
Family Descendants" We have about 170 members. One is of your line. We
have reunions every 2 years. Our last was a mini reunion in King's Lynn,
England, last week. There were about 15 of us there. We had our last official
reunion last Sept in New Orleans. Our next will be in Richmond, Va in the
fall of 2001. If you would like to join, let me know and I will send you
a application. It's $20 application fee and 10 yearly dues. We've been
to Sweet Hall several times. There are some Lipscomb graves there. Have
you seen the "Claiborne of Virginia " Descandents of Colonel William
Claiborne
by John Fredrick Dorman and Dr.Claiborne T. Smith? The later is a member
of our clan. I have a copy and will look up your line. >>
Hello there Ann!
I just received your post and although I'm delinquent on my dues I
intend to send them in soon and get back in good standing with
the Clan. I met you back at the reunion in Williamsburg a few
years ago. My name is Bill Claiborne and I was there with my
Uncle Glen Claiborne who helped publish the Claiborne Clippings.
I'm sad to report, in case you didn't know, that he is now deceased.
You may remember me telling you about my sister's shop in Cary,
NC. You made a visit there shortly after that reunion. This may help
to jog your memory in regards to who I am.
Anyway, it's good to see you on this list! I look forward to getting
back to a future reunion- I believe the next one is in Va. I can't
remember where our lines come together, but I've recently been
interested in finding out more about our Robertson connections.
I went to a Scottish festival in Gatlinburg, TN recently and became
fascinated with their clans. Our ancient Cliburns are related to
King Malcolm II of Scotland and I discovered that the clan most
identified with him is the Donnachaidh clan. It just so happens
that most Robertsons identify their heritage also with this clan.
So, that makes two substantial alliances to this ancient and very
well respected clan.
I remember you had a great desire for developing more interests
in our genealogy. I believe that this link could help bring in more
new members as well as adding a nice highland flavor to our ongoing
research. After all, these scottish clans are very well researched
and established, making any association with them a boon to
our collective endeavors of maintaining a link to our past for the
benefits of better understanding and greater honor afforded to
our ancestors.
If you have any comments on these or other Claiborne-related
issues I'd love to hear from you.
I hope this email finds you in good health and good spirits.
sincerely,
Bill

Hi List.
Once again I need help in documentation:
Does anyone out there have any documentation that a William Gooch married a Ursula Claiborne, and that they had a child named Margaret Elizabeth Gooch?
I know that this is a Claiborne List but was hoping that someone could direct me too the documentation of this child (Margaret Elizabeth). Have tried everything I can think of but nothing.
Any help would be very appreciated.
Thanks again
Charlotte
