What is the relationship of William G. to you. I just successfully
completed this documentation back to Dr. Samuel Claggett through Christopher
Columbus Claggett for admission to the DAR. Check out their website.
Someone may have come into the DAR through Ferdinand. If you can find a
death certificate of William G.'s offspring where he is mentioned as the
father, or a marriage certificate, birth certificate for his offspring, etc.
where he is mentioned, you may be in luck. I was lucky enough to have the
online Maryland archives that had an index of early births, deaths, etc.,
and after many nights of searching was able to find almost all the
documentation I needed. Perhaps Ohio has this type of info online.
Do take a look at the above, it looks good!
Still looking.

If you haven't taken a look at the phelpsfamilyhistory.com site, do so, it
might be of some help. Ferdinand Claggett was my second great grand uncle
and brother to my second great grandfather Christopher Columbus Claggett.
I'll continue to do some further research for you and be in touch if I find
out anything about William G.
Keep searching!

Greetings
I have been doing some research on my family line in Virginia, and found a direct connection to the Claggetts via my Great Grandmother, Willis Virginia (Jenny) Claggett, born 1844 and was the daughter of George A Claggett and Mary Elizabeth Jeffries. who were married in Fauquier County Virginia on 3 August 1843.
The information I found on George was at first minimal, and one source had his date of birth as 1821. After studying the Claggett website and ruling out any possibility that this George was the one born in 1832 to Samuel Claggett III and Julia Sanford, and studying the census data from 1820 and 1830 for Ferdinand and Samuel Claggett, it seems that this George fits right in as a son of Ferdinand.
There is nothing about George A Claggett posted on the Claggett website but a few things start to add up when some census data is studied:
In the 1850 census for Turner’s district Fauquier Virginia, George Claggett age 29 and his wife Mary Elizabeth (Jeffries) age 27, with daughter Clemence and son Thomas were family number 709
Next door to them resided Ferdinand Claggett age 63 with Frances A, age 23.
Two residences away lived Newton Claggett (Isaac) age 22 with wife Sally (Jeffries)age 22 and daughter Mary age 6 months.
A close association with the extended Claggett family is also indicated in the 1860 census for New Baltimore, N.E. Revenue district, Fauquier County Virginia, with George Claggett age 38 and his wife Mary Elizabeth age 35 with daughters Clemence and Estelle and son James living next door to James A. Claggett age 35 and wife Catharine age 40 with sons Moses, William, and Randolph, and daughter Matilda.
James A Claggett is the son of Samuel Claggett III and Lucy Sanford and assuming that George A Claggett is one of the sons of Ferdinand Claggett that would make them cousins, as James was the nephew of Ferdinand.
This all leads to hopefully some clarification of the Claggett line and perhaps will put George A Claggett back on the page of history. If you have any more information on this George, let me know
Regards
Frank
Dear Jeremy,
I would be glad to help if you could give me some dates and locations.
Are they Claggets from Prince George's Co. Md.? Are you sure they spelled
the name Clagett with one "G" or two. They are of the same family but two
branches. Let me know so I can be of assistance.
