Hello List,
I am looking for another valid document (besides the 1880 census) that
shows the names of Lawrence Preston Williams Sr.'s parents. We are not sure
the 1880 Census reflects the correct Williams. (We question his siblings
also.) I am now looking for Catholic Churches in the St. Mary's County area
that may have his Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation, Matrimony, etc.
records.(He married Mary C. Virginia Claggett around 1900.) Does anyone
know the names of older Catholic Churches in St. Mary's County, MD and
surrounding area that Lawrence may have received sacraments?
I know he was buried at St. Michael's C. Church Cemetery in Ridge, MD on 9
Apr 1952. His DOB is 19 Apr 1878.
Thanks for any search tips you can provide me.
Fay
The name doesn't ring a bill, I am a Clagett, I traced back as far as I
could, My mother was trying to make the connection to The Episcopal Bishop
I believe his name was Thomas Wilson Claggett, Bryce Clagett had traced
all the Clagetts and they were documented, he was going to publish all that
he found, but he died a few years ago and to my knowledge his family has
never had them published. His grandson Brice Clagett is on Facebook, I have
never asked him about it, The ancestor that I have tried to get some
information from Maryland, James Claggett Estimated Birth 1800 was born in Anne
Arundel , Maryland, he migrated to Ohio, married Louisa Watkins, they had
two sons James W. Claggett and Septimus Claggett, they were both died in the
Civil War, they had children before they died, James W. Claggett is buried
in the National Cemetery in Nashville, Tennessee. My Grandfather's
Grandfather was James W. Claggett, my grandfather was Harry J. Clagett born in
Marion Ohio. I am sorry I don't have any information that you looking for.

Hello
Does anyone have any information on childhood years of Lawrence Preston
Williams, Sr.? He is my husband's Maternal Grandfather.
DOB: 19 Apr 1878
DOD: April 1952 (Buried St. Michael's Catholic Church)
Resided much of his adult life in St. Mary's County, Ridge, Maryland
lst Marriage to: Mary C. Virginia Claggett
DOB: 1875
DOD: 19 Jun 1920
2 Children:
Lawrence Preston Williams, Jr. (1904 - 1949)
Mary Claggett Williams Sweeney (1908 - 1989)
Representing St. Mary's County, he was County Treasurer, member of the
Maryland House of Delegates & Speaker Pro Tempore. (1915 - 1933)
His parents died when he was very young. The name A. S. Benville keeps
surfacing as connected to the Williams family. (There is another
Lawrence
Williams that lived in that area around the same time, so that is
confusing
when doing research.)
He was Catholic, so I want to research Baptism, lst Communion,
Confirmation, Marriage, & Last Rites. Does anyone know how to go about
obtaining
these records?
Where did he attend school? Info on his brothers & sisters. Are there
any ancesters still in the area? Any suggestions or leads would be most
appreciated. Thank you.
