to get these things straightened out if we can, isn't it?

Hello Jane,
As far as I can tell, the Bowie family was very large. A book called "The Bowie and their Kindred" was published in 1899 and is currently available in various libraries, if you goggle that title. Much of my grandmother's genealogy notes for my family were derived from that book.
Bowie Maryland is very, very close to Croom and to Hockley-in-the-Hole, Maryland, where the Claget family lived. Thus, it is not surprising that several generations seem to have intermarried.
I am descended from Edward Claget and Eleanor Bowie's daughter (Wiseman's younger sister by a year), Eleanor Bowie Claget. According to my grandmother's notes, Eleaner "received several negros from her father on same date that her husband was given Croom land from his father."
Jim Bowie, of Bowie knife fame, was not born for several more generations. Intermarriage between the two families may have continued, but my line was living in Baltimore at that point, so I can't say, for sure.

Hello Jane...
In my 30 years of researching the Bowie family, every major source I have
ever seen states that James Rezin "Jim" Bowie (1795-1836), married a woman from
Mexico, Maria Ursula De Veramendi, on April 25, 1831, in San Antonio,
Coahuila, Mexico, before the formation of the Republic Texas. They had one
daughter, Maria Josepha Elve Bowie. I have been to San Antonia many times while
researching the heroes of The Alamo. My father's cousin, Jim Bowie, died at The
Alamo, as did my mother's cousin, Col. David Crockett.
Some source to say that James Rezin "Jim" Bowie did marry in Maryland before
leaving for Mexico/Texas but all major sources state that this is not a
verifiable fact, but just family lore.
Jim Bowie's connection to Maryland is the Bowie family. I am attaching the
Descendant Charts for John Bowie and his wife, Mary Mulligan, Jim Bowie's
great great grandparents. Jim is in the 5th Generation and is #27 on page 4.
As you look through the charts you will see how the Bowie family is related
to most of the Colonial Families of Maryland and beyond.
I'm Richard Warfield Faber, Jr., #295 on page 37. My great great
grandmother is, Ellen Amelia Warfield, #57 on page 10. Just before her death in 1919,
Ellen asked all her granddaughters to be sure and "name one of their future
sons after the 1st Warfield in Maryland Richard Warfield, Sr. (1647-1704)".
Ellen said "future sons" because in 1919, all of Ellen's granddaughters were
still young and none were married. In 1928, when my grandmother, Sylvia
Sadie (Shields) Faber, was pregnant with my father, she remembered the promise
she and her sisters made to their grandmother, Ellen, so when my father was
born he was named Richard Warfield Faber.
Ellen owned a copy of the book "Founder's of Anne Arundel and Howard
Counties, Maryland." The book was written by Ellen's 1st cousin, Joshua Dorsey
Warfield, and first published in 1905. Have you ever seen this book? I refer to
it as the "Bible" for any one researching the Colonial Families of Maryland.
You can access the entire book on Ancestry.Com

I sold my home in San Juan Capistrano and moved 2 years ago so please check

decided to continue using the "Jr." title so I won't be confused with my father by

Hi Richard,
Nice to hear from you, and thanks for your very complimentary remarks about
my web site! Your comments have gotten my new year off to a fantastic start!
And due credit where it belongs--much of what I have is due to the

If you or anyone else on the list would like the family history included, I
will happily add it with due credit to you. Just send me a GEDCOM extract.
If unsure about how to create one, just write me.
Your attachment was not sent, as attachments are not allowed in Rootsweb

can post it where others can download it.
I am north of you, Richard, by a few miles, in Stockton, CA, south of

I did notice last week some layout problems on the web site due to
incompatibility with Internet Explorer 6, and am working on a fix. It's best
