HELLO Joseph Bailey Egan ! !
I believe that we have communicated before however I lost buckets of info in
two (yes 2) computer crashes about 4 years ago.
I have some Egan info concerning Lochlin Egan and have been trying for years
to connect his family to mine as his granddaughter told me a story about
picking berries in West Alexander area with a Claffey cousin as a child.
Approximately in early 1930s.
Have never been able to trace it down and that lady died sometime ago and as
with many families many are not interested.
Lachlin Egan's name appears on a tombstone very near my GGGreat
grandparents James and Jane Claffey are buried near West Alexander area
My web site is in much need of update but this link will give you the lay of
that land for now.
Busy day scheduled today and my Egan info is packed away so will hunt it out
and get back to you in a day or two.
Thanks so much for the message.
Regards Carol Ann Claffey Mounts

Hello Carol,
I'm not sure if I have contacted you previously. My name is Joseph Bailey Egan. I have located where my Great Grand father Kieran Egan and Margaret Claffey my GG Mother lived and raised 7 children in Ferbane Ireland. I have been working with Seamus Claffey that is the under-taker there. The marriage records are missing for the Ferbane Parish from 1833-1877 so I have not been able to locate their marriage record. Kieran Egan's death record 2 Feb. 1900 at the listed age of 80 years. I'm hung up on finding the link to where Kieran and Margaret came from. (I'm guessing very close by there in County Offaly) It appears that Margaret was much younger than Kieran. I'm guessing a birth about 1845-1850 as the children were born 1869 ( James) my GGfather and the last child born 1883 (Daniel) I have located some of the children coming to NY but Margaret seem to disappear. Folklore told to me by the locals at Ferbane that Margaret had a sister Mary Claffey that married John Killian of Endrim. I visited their grave in Clonmacnoice. The record they gave me also speculates another sister Catherine married to a Robert Dalton. The record also shows Kieran and Margaret Egan as the sponsors for Mary and John's children.
As you can see that most of this is Egan stuff but I'm very interested in trying to locate Margaret Claffey because I do not have a B. D. or M record for her. She did not sign the witness of Kieran's death in 1900 as it was signed by the youngest son Daniel at 17 years of age. I will be glad to share any of my research with anyone interested. Some times it is difficult to get through all the firewalls required now days. I live in Montana. Two years ago was my first trip to Ireland and enjoyed it immensely. Can't wait to return someday.
