To James Claffey:
My ancestors James & Catherine (a.k.a. "Cate") also settled in Hartford,
Ct around the same time as yours, I believe. They also migrated to
Waterbury, where I believe they are buried.
I too have been to Clonnmacnoise...as I was investigating Claffey places.
He was purported to have come from nearby Balinasloe; she was of the
Lynch family of Galway.
Our family was in the the business of horses, restaurants...and of course
politics.
You do know that it was the "Claffey" church at Clonmacnoise which
apparently enabled free-thinkers as Catholic "and sometimes Protestant".
Best regards,
KC

Hi,
My great-great-grandfather and great grandfather and his siblings came to
Connecticut (Waterbury) in the 1860's. I believe they came from the
Shannonbridge area (Co. Offaly), and the ancestors are buried at Clonmacnois
(near McClaffey's Church).
My Aunt Margaret Cullen lived in Moate for many years (she died in her
90's). I often visited her there and stayed at Claffey's Hotel and Restaurant
which was almost across the street. However, I could not establish that
we are related to the Claffey's of Moate. Also been to Mulingar many times.
