I have another Clack family in my tree from Broadwell, Oxfordshire. Perhaps these are the missing link, Charles Clack c1790 Broadwell, Oxfordshire m Hannah Beatman born c1794. I also have your Clack tree as they are also related to me through Eliza Bowles (Cripps).
Best wishes
Karianne

Message Board Post:
I have a transcript of an old letter written by Elma BUTLER GORDON to a distant relative of mine. In it she mentions her daughter, Edith BUTLER CLACK, wife of Robert W. CLACK, who was a college professor in Alma, Michigan on the 1930 census. Sometime prior to 1929 he had taught in China for 14 years and four of their children were born in China.
I am trying to determine whether there is a relationship between the BUTLERS or GORDONS and my family. I'll be happy to share what I've learned about Elma in my attempt to figure out if she fits in my tree (it's quite a bit!). A possible connecting family may be STANDLEY.
The letter is to James "Jay" and Elizabeth "Lizzie" CRESWELL CARPENTER and was written June 18, 1929 from Marina, Monterey County, California. Jay and Lizzie were in Noxubee County, Mississippi and had lived in Missouri before moving there.
Any clues appreciated.
Vanette Hobbs Hamilton
