I've been a lurker for some time, trying to find out what was
appropriate. I don't have a very long genealogy, but more than 70% of it is
documented, mostly through family records like Bibles and some birth/marriage/death
certificates.
My g-grandfather was:
Joseph Albert CLACK
born 1 Apr, 1859
married 26 Jul 1888 to Ida Evelyn WATTS
born 1863
died 17 Dec 1913 died 31 Mar 1925
My grandfather was:
Sterling S. CLACK
born 4 Jun 1891
married 15 May 1909 to Ida Lou BARNES
born 6 Sep 1891
died 1 Jul 1928 died 5 Nov 1980
My father was:
James Sterling CLACK
born 14 May 1913
married 29 Aug 1931 to Mary Hortence MIZE
born 26 Jul 1911
died 23 Sep 1983 died 17 Feb 1992
I am:
Gerald Sterling CLACK
born 1936
married 11 Nov 1961 to Emily Louise MOBLEY
born 1933
As nearly as I can discover, my g-father and g g-father were
small farmers in and around Lawerence County in southeastern
Missouri. Before them, its a brick wall. Any help appreciated

Any one give me information about my great grandfather DAVID CLACK ,75,of 41 Boston Manor Road,Brentford, who died in West Middlesex Hospital,in 1945 approx.
Mr Clack who won a Military Medal in the first world war,and who was a Boer War vetran, served in the Home Guard in the last war as a Sargeant Signal Instructor.
He was known for his upright bearing and his military moustache, which he kept well "spiked" with wax.
His M.M. was awarded for "bravery in the field," He repaired signal lines while wounded and under heavy gunfire.
Mr Clack was an Old Contemptible and a member of the British Legion.
More greetings!
I too am new to this list, but I was interested in this message. I have
just begun to think about researching my family's history, so I have very
little information to go on at present.
However, I too am a "Clack" from North Wiltshire. My father was Hubert
James Clack, born in Swindon on 2nd May 1908. He died in January 1990.
He had several brothers and sisters, including the following (I am still
trying to find out their dates of birth but I do know my father was the
youngest of the family)
Sidney
Ernest
Robert
Frederick (at one time he had a carpet shop in Swindon which he continued
with until he was well over 70, also he was chairman of the Swindon Chamber
of Commerce for a while)
Florence (Dolly)
Grace
I think my grandfather's name may have been Charles, and I have some
recollection that my father said his family originated in the Lechlade area.
I don't know if this is of any interest to you, but if pressure of work
allows me to find out any more about my family I will post the details.
Best wishes
Val Young (Nee 'Clack')

Dear Peggy, Do you have information about the siblings and other children of
your James Clack, II?
I have Clack ancestors in GA whose names were James W. Clack and Manerva my
greatgrandmother. I do not know how they came to GA, however and if they
came from VA.
Thank you for any information you may be able to share. Georgia Smith,

Hello!
I have two Clack ancestors, but I have not been able to determine
either of the lady's parents. They were born about the same time
and could actually be sisters. One of these days, I hope to find
both of their families. Until then, I'll just keep searching.
It is interesting though that one pair of my G Grandparents, on
my Mother's side, Mary Jane DOUGLASS and George Randles HUFFAKER,
both descend from a Clack lady.
Take care!

Hi:
Concerning the FamilyDiscovery.com message just received on this list -
The Eastman Online Newsletter this week named FamilyDiscovery.com as one of
the online genealogy scams.
Also from his newsletter:
"There are several Web sites that track companies that sell
questionable genealogy products and services. If you have any
questions about an advertisement you received, either in regular
mail or in e-mail, I would suggest that you check the following:
Genealogical Web Site Watchdog (only for online scams) at:

The National Genealogical Society's Consumer Protection

contact the NGS Consumer Protection Committee via traditional

My CLACK lines since hitting American soil are as listed below. Generation #5
are my great grandparents. I am still searching for more information on Mary
STERLING, wife of Captain James Clack, Jr. Her parents are Mary MARTIN and
John STERLING from England. Other names associated with this family of Clacks
are: Thompson, Camp, Coker,Smith, Lindley, Cox, Holloway. I have this Clack
family in Warren, Walton, and Jackson Counties in Georgia by the late 1780s.

My name is Georgia Smith, form Valdosta, Georgia. Manerva Clack
(Walton/Barrow county,GA)who married James and/or Benjamin 'Ben' Adams CS
was my great grandmother. Her father was, I believe, James W. Clack, by
evidence of census records.
Starting with the Adams and Clack census listings in the Northern division
of Walton county which also was known as the cut-off district, 88th division
and in 1914 became Barrow county:
The1820 census lists John Adams, John Clack;1830 lists Joel Adams, James M
Adams and John M. Clack; 1840 lists John Adams, John Clack; 1850 census
lists a Penny Adams and lists only Mary and Sterling as heads of households
in Walton Co., the 1860 census Peninah or Beninah Adams, widow age 54, the
mother or guardian of Benjamin Adams, age 23. Listed as Neighbors in 1860:
J (I believe this is James W., CS, shot in the thigh at New Hope Church on
3/26/1862) Clack, age 25, ME Clack, Mary age 11, Elijah 9, John 7, Martha 1.
The 1870 census lists Benjamin as head of household, P. (Penny/Peninah?)age
60. as keeping house and E. sister age 26.
John Clack was the neighbor, age 44, with AH Clack 38, wife, RE 17 son, MC
(Manerva?)14 dau, MJ 10 dau, MA 7 dau, Jas H 1 son.
In 1880 the census(finally!) shows that JB Adams, farmer, age 43, has a wife
M (Manerva?)C(Clack?) Adams, age 26, a son James(James Benjamin, my
grandfather b 1876) age 4, a daughter age 1, L.J.(I know her as Liza or
Ludie Jane) James Clack, now 53 is still a neighbor as is Joseph Clack age
56 and his household.
They took their time, maybe Peninah wouldn't let James marry until she
demised. Or maybe James Clack made them wait till Manerva, seventeen years
younger than her husband, was old enough.
Is this too much of a Roll Call?
I don't know, but I suspect he came down from VA with the rest of the new
Georgians. I will keep your name should I find more information. G. Smith

Someone has recently mentioned looking for Bible records...
This is not the Bible they were looking for but the Family pages from the
Bible of George & Catherine Smith Clack are in the National Archives in the
Revoulutionary Widows Pension file of Rebecca, widow of David Smith, of
Walton County GA. Catherine was thier daughter and used her family records
to prove some dates and marriages etc for her mother.
I have copies and will post them on GenConnect soon.
