Joyce Kerr and I published our research in June of this year in "Clack and
Kindred Souls." It has many references to Clacks associated with shipping.
Based on our research that has been done in recent years, it appears that
Capt Clack referred to in the records wasn't the James Clack of Brunswick.
Indeed, Capt Clack is referred to in the records long after James of
Brunswick was dead. I don't know who in the past first indicated Capt Clack
and James of Brunswick were one and the same person, but unless there were
two of them, I can only assume they jumped to a hasty conclusion.
I know this doesn't answer your questions directly, but it might put you on a
different track in looking for the answers.
The Capt. Clack referred to in the records was a ship's captain. You will
find many references to a Capt Clack or William Clack associated with ships.
