George W. Clabaugh, b. 15 Nov 1808 is my 2nd ggrandfather. While I have quite a bit of information about his life, his home at Antrim, Taneytown, MD, his wives, Emily H. Hall and L. Ellen Kemp and his descents, I cannot confirm his parents. LDS has his father as John Howard Clabaugh b. 20 Oct 1781 and his mother as Martha Harris b. abt 1786, m. 1805. But this appears to be a dead end. If anyone can help me with this, it would be terrific. I believe John Howard Clabaugh's father was John Clabaugh born 1752, Frederick, Maryland. This John Clabaugh moved to Tennessee. George W. Clabaugh may have been the brother of E. A. Clabaugh born in Cumberland, Maryland. The brothers operated both a roadhouse and, I believe, a general store. Another Clabaugh found in Cumberland is Martin Clabaugh. Martin Clabaugh is found in the 1820 Census in Cumberland, Alegheny County, Md. He is shown with 4 boys under the age of 10 and he is listed as under 45 but older than 26. A wife is fo!
und of the same age bracket. So, it could be that Martin was George's father. My family did not consider Clabaugh to be a German name which further clouds the genealogy, however, they could be mistaken because his second wife was of German and well-documented lines.
