I am still trying to find proof of Martin's origins. His Revolutionary War pension app does not given his place of birth, but in 1818 he gave his age as 74 which would put his birth at around 1744. The IGI has a Martin Clabaugh born around 1743 in Stuttgart, Germany but with no other specific info nor an original source. This book "The ancestors of Charles Wesley Clabaugh and Louise Zimmerman Clabaugh and their descendants" says that a Martin Clabaugh, a German immigrant arrived in Philadelphia in 1765.
Here is some of the info from that book
> Martin Claubough, a German immigrant sailed into Philadelphia in 1765. His papers were signed with his mark which tells us that he did not sign his name, but probably pronounced it to the English speaking port authorities in his gutteral German and they wrote it the way it sounded to them. Israel Rupp, himself a German, in his book Thirty Thousand Immigrants, p 37 translated Martin's name as Klaubach. Martin paid freeman's taxes in Lancaster, PA in 1772 under the name of Klapbaugh (Penn Archives, Series 3, Vol 17, p 280). After serving in the Revolutionary War under several different name spellings, he returned to Washington co, MD and worked his trade as a cooper. After tracing property transfers, we know it was the same man who was recorded as Clabough in 1778, as Clappack in 1782, as Clappach in 1785, as Clappaugh in 1788, as Clapbaugh in 1792 and as Clabaugh, also in the same year. "
The land records do have a good trail from Washington co MD to Huntingdon co OH after the Revolutionary War, but there is still not much to really connect this man with the Martin in Lancaster co PA and with the German immigrant in 1765.
Another researcher has sent me info (with no source and I have not been able to corroborate) that he was a passenger on the Polly sailing in 1765 from Rotterdam to Philadelphia. Again none of these tidbits have proof that they are the same Martin as the man who married Margaret Householder etc. I've also been researching Frederick Clabaugh of Frederick and Washington counties, MD whose census records would suggest he is of an age similar to Martin. There is a strong possibility that they are related, perhaps brothers, but I have not found any info to indicate that this is so. I have not found any naturalization records in Maryland or Pennsylvania. His pension records have a lot of detail on his Rev War service, but nothing about his whereabouts prior to enlistment or about his origins.
If you have any data that does provide some proof of his origin or to connect the Rev War Martin with the immigrant, I would love to hear it.
BTW, I decide from Martin and Margaret's daughter Elizabeth who married William Nightwine.

My branch of that tree:

Just for further information:
According to my Texas Almanac there is no Walker, TX.
There is however, a Walker Co., GA. I am not sure what other states have a Walker Co. Can someone clear up which Walker Co. is being referred to here?

Sherry,
I am SO GLAD to find you!! When I was first given Theodore THOMAS' wife's name it was given to me as Elizabeth CHABOUGH. For the longest time I searched for this name and never could find a single one. Finally when I got some list or other...I forget what now...and saw CLABAUGH I knew immediately that it must be the correct version of the messed up name that I had originally. And then I was able to do a little research on it. You have already about doubled what I had found on my own!!
I will gladly give you any THOMAS info that you would like. That is my main interest in this line. My mother was a THOMAS. Let me know what you need to know or where you are stuck and I will gladly fill in for you!
The only McANALLY I have ever known was John McANALLY, the Ag. teacher in Hondo, TX where my parents taught school, as well.
Hey, cousin...SO NICE to meet you!

Hi Delores,
Elizabeth Clabaugh Thomas was my great grandmother. Her father was the Rev. John Clabaugh and mother was Mary McAnally. I do not know where you got that she was not a Clabaugh, but she was. I will be happy to share with you any info I have. I am particularly interested in following the Thomas line.
Thanks for any info you can share.

Hi Nancy,
I think that Nellie's maiden name may have Williams if she was the wife of Pearl David Clabaugh born 1867 in Iowa. They had a family of at least 7 children, all but the youngest were born in Webster City, Iowa.
