Karma,
You're welcome and thank you for your reply because it sheds some light on possibly why my g-grandmother, Delora Vincent probably divorced him. My grandfather, Kenneth died in an automobile accident several years before I was born and his name was rarely mentioned because he also was a "rascal" lacking good character according to what little my grandmother told me about him.
Thank you again, Karma for this wonderful information and I will keep you informed if I find anything more as well.

Thanks for all the info you provided about Delora Vincent & her son Kenneth. I have an old letter from Nancy Hicks dated Aug 24 1887, writing from New Helena Custer Co NE. Her dau Sarah has just recently died (probably from birth of John W). Sarah M. Hicks was married to John Clabaugh. Her mother, Nancy (Orr) Hicks has the "baby" which must be John Wesley Clabaugh (he would be 3 mo old).. "He grows like a weed & is a great deal of company. He will laugh & crow when you talk to him. John (his father) is thinking of going to Missouri this fall to visit his sister Ida Daniel, but since Sarah is gone he will have to go alone. John gets blue and low-spirited at times". I could never find this John Sr again anywhere.
I have not been able to find John Wesley Clabaugh in the 1910 census anywhere. This would be around the time Delora Vincent was married to George Horn. I wonder where John W. Clabaugh was during this period? I found him in 1920 in Midvale NE( 4 kids) & 1930 in Dry Cedar, NE (8 kids).
Here is some info I have in another old letter from George Hicks dated Dec 1918:
In Dec 1918 Nancy Hicks, John W.'s grandmother, was dying in Coffeyville KS. George, her husband,(age 83) was in Broken Bow NE for some unknown reason. John Wesley lived there also. Nancy was asking for George to please come home to Coffeyville before she died but George did not have the money to travel there and John Wesley would not give him the money to go back & be with his dying wife. Somehow George Hicks got the means to get back and arrived in Coffeyville the day before she died. He calls his grandson, John Wesley, a "rascal". In this same letter George tells of John Wesley forging George and Nancy's name to some mortgage papers & they are in real trouble especially since Nancy has died. They are going to lose their property(farm?) in NE.. He is asking my gr grandfather Wm T. Bebee (Burwell NE) to help him find a lawyer in NE who can help them. I do not know how this story ends because my gr grandfather Wm T. Bebee died a few days after this letter was written to !
him.
It seems from this letter that perhaps John Wesley Clabaugh was indeed a "rascal" & someone lacking in good character.
Thanks for all your help. Keep me informed if you find anymore info & I will do the same for you.

Karma,
Kenneth was my materal grandfather who was raised as Kenneth Wayne Horn by Delora Vincent Horn & George Albert Horn (his stepfather).
While reserching Delora, I found information that said she married John W. Clabaugh (b: 5/26/1887) on December 25, 1905. Kenneth was born in May 1909 and sometime between his birth and April 1910, Delora married George Albert Horn.
I, too believe that John Clabaugh was raised by his grandparents, George & Nancy Hicks since they lived in the same Nebraska town (Midvale, Garfield County) in 1900 as did Delora's family. However, since I had not been able to find any further information on John Clabaugh since 1900, I assumed he died shortly after my grandfather was born and Delora then married George Horn. But, obviously from your message, John did not pass away, so for now I must assume he and Delora divorced sometime after Kenneth was born.
Kenneth Wayne Horn was born in Midvale, Garfield County, Nebrask in May 1909 and died in an automobile accident, Jan 1942. He married my grandmother, Thelma Ruth Moffit in 1926 in Akron, Colorado. They had 3 daughters: (my mother), Leah Jeanne Horn (b:1927); Geraldean Elaine Horn (b;1929) and Carol Yvonne Horn (b:1933). They have all since passed away and I am the eldest grandchild of those living descendents, most of who live in Colorado.
I'm sorry that I do not have any more information on John Claybaugh or his parents. My great-grandmother, Delora lived to 101 years of age, but until I began this research, no one in the family was aware of John Clabaugh and we believed George Horn to be Kenneth's biological father.
If I find any further information on him or his parents, I will gladly pass it on to you.
Good luck in your research!

I am also looking for more information on John Wesley Clabaugh, grandson of George W. and Nancy (Orr) Hicks. I did not know he was married previously to a Delora Vincent & had a son, Kenneth. I suspected he was raised by his grandparents, the Hicks, but did not know for sure.
John Wesley was born May 1887. His parents were John Clabaugh and Sarah M. Hicks. Sarah Hicks was born in 1868 Pa and died between Apr 4 1887 & Aug 24 1887 in NE. I believe she probably died from childbirth of John Wesley. John Wesley married "Artie" unknown and had a family of 8 children. Do you have any info on John Wesley's parents? I have more info on the Hicks family. Nancy Orr Hicks was a first cousin of my Gr Grandfather Wm. Thomas Bebee who lived in Burwell Garfield Co NE. What information do you have on the son, Kenneth, born in 1909?
