Thanks for the message Phillip! It is really exciting to find out more and more of family ties! My grandmother, Cecilia Gupton, though 90, is still as feisty as ever! She would probably know about Silas' parents. She has done some researching herself and has lots of pictures! I know she spent a lot of time in Union County.
If you get a chance, you might call her and go by to see her. Where are you located? I live in Cunningham, Kentucky.
I am the oldest daughter of William Albertus (Bert) Hayden and Nancy Carol Gupton Hayden Byrnes. Birthday 11/27/52. My Dad died on February 1, 1998. (He was born and raised in the St. Charles Church area, son of Ernest and Zada Hayden)
I am married to Tony Booker and we have one son, Anthony Lynn Booker, II (TJ) born 8/4/1978.
I have two brothers: David Lucian Hayden, 7/21/54, he has one son, Jeremy Hayden (7 years old); Mark Andrew Hayden, 5/16/62, he is married to Ginger Watson and they have two children: Jennifer Leigh, 12/8/82; and Andrew, 7/22/90.
I have two sisters: Jane Stephanie Dunn, 1/13/58, she has two children, Ragan Nicole, 3/13/85 and Aaron Blaine, 7/22/81. My other sister, Patti Andrews has one daughter, Jackie Jo Doublin, 12/8/77.
My Mom's sister, Cecile Elaine Jarvis, (remarried) has three sons: Matthew Rankert, Ryan Rankert and Adam Rankert.
Would love to hear more from you. I have lots of information about my grandmother's line of the Cissells.
Thanks so much,
Sharman

Thanks for your response. My great-grandfather, Barney Cissell, and your great-grandfather, Joe Ben, were brothers. I have met several of the descendents of Joe Ben at the St. Charles Picnic. I wish I had met Cecilia Jane there, but as she is now 90 years of age, I expect she is now in frail health.
I know that our ancestor, Silas Cissell, had at least one brother, Celestine, who was about 4 years younger. Celestine served in the Union Army during the Civil War, and have obtained the pension application papers his widow filed in 1890. I had hoped that Celestine's army records would list his parents' name, but unfortunately, military records of that time did not do so. According to census records, both Silas and Celestine were born in Kentucky. There were several Cissells who came from Maryland to Kentucky in the 1785-1800 time frame, settling first in the central Kentucky area, presently Washington, Nelson, and Marion Counties. Brothers Ignatius and Bernard Cissell travelled to Kentucky in 1785 as part of the "Maryland League of 1785.", while John Baptist Cissell, probably a cousin to Ignatius and Bernard, migrated in 1787. Several of Ignatius's descendents moved to Union County after 1820, John Baptist's descendents moved to southern Indiana after 1820, and!
Bernard and his descendents moved to Missouri in the early 1800s.
I think that Silas and Celestine's father was William Cissell who was living in Union County in 1840, and has two sons in the right age group to be Silas and Celestine. There appears to be a connection between Silas Cissell and Elizabeth Cissell who married John Mullen in Union County in 1847, and who moved to Hickman County that year. Elizabeth was the godmother to Silas's first born child in Union County in 1845, while Silas's son, William, is found in the 1870 census living with the Mullen family. I have the death certificate of Elizabeth Cissell Mullen, which lists her parents as William and Elizabeth Cissell of Perry County, Indiana, which is not far from Union County, Kentucky. I think that Elizabeth Cissell Mullen is at least a cousin, and possibly a sister, to Silas and Celestine Cissell.
