These corrections/comments regarding the line I posted, were posted to the Cissell Board but not to the forum -- and should be posted so that misinformation is not passed on. Please note:
There are numerous uncertainties in the line given in this message (please see below).
1. As indicated by the question mark, the surname CALVERT is uncertain and should be considered unproved for the wife of the first man, John Cissell.
2. There is not a single record that he ever used BAPTIST as a middle name. His name was John Cissell.
3. There is no evidence that Elizabeth Alvery Bullock was the wife of William Cissell. I tried hard to find some evidence, but no one seemed to have it.
4. Nor is there any evidence that Doyne was the surname of Mary, wife of Arthur Cissell. This seems to have been a misunderstanding on another Doyne.
5. Again, there is not a single record that places the middle name Baptist in the name of John Cissell who m. Susanna Thomposn and was the father of Dorothy, Janet, and James. On the contrary, he always is referred to as "John Cissell." I do not know why this error keeps cropping up, except that (1) the web does that and (2) there were other men indeed named John Baptist Cissell, but not with this wife.

According to your info from 1850 census Elizabeth J. Cissell who married George Wathen living next door to Cecelia -- could be daughter of James & Elizabeth above. I show children of George Wathen & Elizabeth J. Cissell (similar names Raphael, Mary, Charles, William) :
Mary Delphina Wathen
William Wathen
Elizabeth Victoria Wathen
Matilda Louisa Wathen
Sarah Wathen
Thomas Raphael Wathen
Laurie Bell Wathen
Mary Frances Wathen
George Buckman Wathen
Charles Ernest Wathen

Also I have a William Francis Cissell who was married to Julia Etta Ballard b.1850 d/o Thomas H. Ballard b. 1811 d. 1885 and Priscilla Cissell b. 1812 d. 1863; Julia is gd/o William Proctor Ballard & Mary Ann Woodward. This Priscilla Cissell according to some is daughter of James M. Cissell and Susannah Williams Hammet; and gd/o John Baptist Cissell and Susannah Thompson. May not be the same William F. Cissell you are discussing unless he married a much younger women. However name may be from same family????

Can anyone clarify parents of James Cissell b. 1768 d. 1819. I have seen info from various sources that conflict (Van Zandt, Dawson, Gayle) and some show him as son of John Baptist Cissell and Susannah Thompson while others show him as son of Ignatius Cissell and Elizabeth ?.
I also have info showing he was married to Elizabeth Melton.
I assume there are 2 James and that only one of them was married to Elizabeth. Anyhone know the straight scoop on this James?

Alathair is listed under S.A. Cissell age 9 living with her mother Elizabeth
Watts from Ireland, her uncle William F. Cissell, her sister M.E. Cissell (
Mary Elizabeth) and her grandmother Cecilia Clarke. Alathair's full name
was Sarah Alathair Cissell. She went by Allie. I have not been able to find
James Bernard. Does anyone known when Alathair died? She probably died under
the name Allie Medley between 1881-1899

William F. Cissell is living with Cecilia in the 1850 census. I think it is fairly safe to assume that William was her son. Elizabeth Watts from Ireland is also living with Cecilia in the 1850 census. Her two daughters Sarah Alathair Cissell age 9 listed as S.A. Cissell and Mary Elizabeth age 7 listed under M.E. Cissell are also living with Cecilia. Page 454b in the 1850 Union county census.
My theory is that William F Cissell and Raphael were additional children of Wilford Cissell and Cecilia Clarke.
Elizabeth Watts married a Gabriel J. Green after Raphael died and is found in Henderson County 1860 census. Allie and Mary are living with them, but Cissell is mispelled as Bissell. Page 116
1870 -Elizebeth Watts can be found in Union county on page 407. She is still married to Gabriel Green, and Mary E. Cissell is also living with her.
Allie Cissell married Francis D. Green in 1865. I am not sure what F.D.'s relationship is to Gabriel, but the wedding took place at Gabriel's place in Henderson county, KY. Allie and F.D. had two children. Ralp Green and John Green.
F.D. died abt 1870 and Allie married Wilfred H. Medley in Marion County, KY. Allie had five more kids with Wilfred. Harry, BERNARD, William, Mary and Elizabeth Medley. Wilfred and Allie can be found in the 1880 census under the name Alley Midley in Marion county, KY. The name Medley was mispelled as "Midley".
Mary E. Cissell married a Benjamin Buckman, and she died in 1911 Union county, KY.
Allie Cissell moved back to Union county sometime abt. 1885 after Wilfred Medley died. I have not been able to find Allie in the 1900 census, so I am assuming she died or remarried under a different name. I have not been able to find her two sons from her first mariage either. I have only been able to find Ralp and John Green in the 1880 census.

IMHO There is no proof, or implied proof, that John Baptist Cissell, of
St. Mary's Co, MD, owner of the ship Martha Constant, is related to the
William Cissell of Prince George's Co. We have not yet been able to
establish the parentage of John Baptist Cissell
I did find this:
London: - Marriage Licences, 1520-1610

05 Jun 1605 Mr Thomas Cecill, Esq., about 24, son of Rt Hon. Thomas,
Earl of Exeter, of the Savoy, & Mrs Anne Lee, Maiden, 18, dau. of Sir
Robert Lee, Kt & Alderman of London, of St Andrew Undershaft, both
fathers consenting; at St Andrew Undershaft aforesaid
The second marriage to Susan Oxenbridge, daughter of Sir John
Oxenbridge, came through the Oxenbridge family files. It is still
speculative that she is the mother of Henry and William Cecil.
Here is a Cissell who is a servant:

Alice Bromhill of St. Peter's Lane, spinster, Elizabeth Tailor of
Clerkenwell, spinster, Elizabeth Parker of the same, Susan Fisher of
Charterhouse Lane, spinster, and Margery Cecyll of the same, spinster,
all presented by the Jury of Annoyances for selling drink without
licence.
Not sure how they all tie in, but it tells me there were more than just
the titled Cecil's.
Sysstel was at one time a given Welsh name.
>From Penny Cecil Bloodhart's research:
" The English Cecil family goes back many centuries. The name itself is
spelled in a staggering number of ways. "Cacelius" in Latin meant
"blind" and there are records of Romans with this name. Perhaps it was
carried to Britain during Roman conquests there. It is often spelled
"Syselt", "Syssel", "Cyssell" etc. Even the great Lord Burleigh,
advisor and confidant of Elizabeth Tudor, Queen of England, commented on
the varied spellings of his name."
Also, according to Penny's research, there was also a William Cecill in
PA, a carpenter from Oxfordshire, who bought land from William Penn in
1681.
