Val J. Cichowski of East Greenwich, R.I., a former New Britain resident, died Friday. He was 86.
Mr. Cichowski was born in New Britain and lived in Rhode Island for the past 32 years. He was formerly employed as an engineer for Vitreous State Products in Pawtucket, R.I.
Mr. Cichowski is survived by a son, Dr. Robert S. Cichowski of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; two daughters, Kathleen Ellen Havelis of Cranston, R.I., and Valerie Ann Yurkovich of Cullowhee, N.C.; four brothers, Frank Cichowski of Berlin, Henry Cichowski of Southington, Felix Cichowski of Arlington, N.J., and John Cichowski of New Britain; eight grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. His wife, Mary Tyc Cichowski, died previously.
The rite of committal will be held Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. from the New Britain Memorial Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, with the funeral liturgy at 9 a.m. at Holy Cross Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 6 to 8.

Francis A. ``Frank'' ``Mr. C.'' Cichowski Sr. of Berlin died Monday in Vermont. He was 81.
He was born in New Britain and he lived in Berlin for the past 50 years. He had been a foreman at Parsons Tool & Die Co. and later became the owner, manager and instructor at Fame Tool & Die Co. in Plainville from 1955 to 1991. He voluteered for many years at Camp Incarnation in Ivoryton and was a member and past president of the St. Paul's Fife & Drum Corps in Berlin.
Mr. Cichowski is survived by his wife, Maryann Wolak Cichowski; two sons and daughters-in-law, Francis A. Cichowski Jr. and Joyce Cichowski of Southington and Ronald J. and Kathleen Cichowski of Carver, Mass.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Helen Cichowski of New Britain and Henry and Jennie Cichowski of Southington; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain, to Sacred Heart Church for a Mass at 10. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Calling hours are today, 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., at the funeral home.

Lois (Swanson) Cichowski, 69, of Unionville, formerly of New Britain, died Saturday (Oct. 17, 1998), after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of John S. Cichowski. Born in New Britain, daughter of the late Arthur Swanson and Minnie (Johnson) Swanson, she was raised in New Britain and attended local schools. She resided in Unionville for most of her life, and was the Unionville, Lake Garda, Avon Products representative for 25 years before her retirement in 1984. Lois was a member of First Lutheran Church, New Britain, and Beta Sigma Phi, New Britain. Besides her husband, she leaves her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Cichowski and Salvatore DeGennaro of Shelton; her granddaughter, Torrie DeGennaro; a sister-in-law, Joyce Swanson of Newington; several nieces and nephews. Betty was the widow of Cyril ''Cy'' Cichowski, who passed away in 1976. Betty was born in Sunderland, MA, daughter of the late Paul and Anna (Sirak) Horvath. She was born in New Britain, daughter of the late Fredrick and Augusta (Zaft) Litke, and was a lifelong resident. She was the widow of Joseph K. Cichowski . She was formerly employed by New Departure-Hyatt Div., for 30 years until her retirement in 1973. Henry F. Biernacki, of New Britain, passed away Sunday, (December 31, 2000). He was born in New Britain, son of the late Leo and Victoria ( Cichowski ) Biernacki, and was a lifelong resident. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in Europe. He was among the first to liberate war prisoners in Dachou Concentration Camp in Germany. He worked 44 years in Stanley Works and retired in management from the Steel Strapping Division in 1987. He was a member of Holy Cross Church. Henry enjoyed raising plants in his greenhouse and spending summers at his lakeside home in Holland, MA. He is survived by his devoted wife, Genevieve ``Jean'' (Liss) Biernacki; a daughter, Karen Howard and her husband, Rob of Willington; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Liss of Newington and John Jaronko of Norwich; and several nieces and nephews. Jennie D. Cichowski of Flanders Street, Southington, died Monday. She was 83.
She was born in Terryville and worked at Flanders Elementary School for many years until her retirement. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Southington.
She is survived by her husband, Henry T. Cichowski ; a daughter, Jean Sanders of Plainville; three sons, Thomas and Henry Cichowski , both of Montana, and Paul Cichowski of East Hampton; two brothers, Chet Rogala of Southington and Stanley Rogala of New Britain; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Born in Poland, she was a Newington resident for most of her life. She retired from MacCristy Industries, New Britain. A supportive, loving, generous, and caring mother and grandmother, she leaves her devoted daughter, Kathleen Cichowski , her grateful son and daughter-in-law, Duffy and Lynne Cichowski ; her beloved and most cherished grandsons, Ryan and Devin Cichowski , all of Newington. She also leaves her sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Edmund Reiss of Newington; numerous extended family members; several nieces and nephews; and her best friend of over 50 years, Susan Vaccarillo of New Britain. Helen was always appreciative of her kind and supportive neighbors. She was predeceased by her brother, Henry Jesionka. A simple woman of simple tastes, Helen's greatest joy was to give of he!

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Richard Cichowski ; her son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Carrie Cichowski ; her daughter and son-in-law, Leanne and Shawn Spears; and her son, Mark Cichowski . Sue was a ``Gramma'' to four adoring grandchildren, Ashley and Alex Spears and Charlotte and Benjamin Cichowski . In her hometown of Batavia, she leaves her mother, Maureen Marshek; her sister, Kay Lennon and her husband Thom; a brother, John Marshek and his wife Joyce all of Batavia; and her brother-in-law, Art Cichowski and his wife Joanie of Rochester, NY; many nieces and nephews; and two special friends, Meg Lynam and Lil Ligier. She was predeceased by her father, Frank Marshek. Sue was a member of St. Bartholomew parish in Manchester where she was active in the Ladies Guild, the Bereavement Committee !

Helen Koval Cichowski of North Cherry Street, Wallingford, died Friday at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. She was 88.
She was born in Warren, Mass., and lived in Wallingford since 1926. She was employed by the former International Silver Co. for 25 years until her retirement in 1980. She was a parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Church of Wallingford, a member of the Holy Rosary Society and the Ladies Guild of the church, the Meriden Council of Catholic Women, AARP Wallingford Chapter, the Senior Organization of American Retirees and the Wallingford Senior Center.
She is survived by a daughter, Gloria L. Creto; a son, Joseph W. Cichowski Sr., both of Wallingford; two sisters, Anne Rogers and Wanda Swantek, both of Wallingford; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Her husband, Joseph S. Cichowski , died previously.

John J. Gorman, Sr., of Eaton Ave., Meriden, beloved husband of the late Mary Cichowski Gorman, died early Friday, (September 19, 2003) at the Orchards of Southington. Francis A. Cichowski III, 33, of Clinic Dr., New Britain, died Thursday (December 25, 2003). Born Oct. 30, 1970, in New Britain, son of Francis A., Jr. and Joyce (Aldrich) Cichowski . He had been employed by Companion Industries of Southington. He had currently been taking courses at Tunxis Community College. His hobbies included astronomy and photography. Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Jessica Feldbauer of Manchester, NH; his paternal grandmother, Maryann Cichowski of Berlin; uncles and aunts, Burt and Georgia Aldrich of Simsbury, and Ray and Shirley Aldrich of Rindge, NH and Ronald and Kathy Cichowski of Carver, MA and several cousins. Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, 10 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Helen Zapatka ``Lucco'' Cichowski , 94, of New Britain died Saturday, (April 2, 2005). She was born in New Britain and was a life long resident; she was a member of Holy Cross Church. Mrs. Cichowski is survived by her husband, John Cichowski and two sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Maria Lucco and Ronald and Peggy Joyce Lucco all of Cromwell. Also surviving are four grandchildren and their spouses, Jonathan and Kristina Lucco of Florida, Sandra and Michael Tierney, Patrick and Susie Lucco, and Natalie Lucco all of Connecticut; she leaves three great grandchildren, Madison, Lance and Jake, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, April 7, at 9:15 a.m. from New Britain Memorial Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain followed by the funeral liturgy at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Church. John S. Cichowski of New Britain died Monday. He was 96.
He was a native and lifelong resident of New Britain, and retired as a drafting engineer from the Stanley Works after 25 years of employment.
He is survived two sons, Ronald Lucco, and Richard Lucco, both of Cromwell. His wife, Helen Zapatka Cichowski , died previously.
Services will be at 8:45 a.m. Friday at New Britain Memorial-Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave., New Britain, followed by the funeral liturgy at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph W. Cichowski Sr. of Parson Street, Wallingford, died Monday at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He was 69.
He was born in Meriden and lived in Wallingford most of his life. He was an electrical contractor and the proprietor of Cichowski Electric of Wallingford for more than 45 years. He was a member of the Connecticut Army National Guard, Company K of Wallingford, and a member of the Polish National Alliance Group of Wallingford. He was a parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Church of Wallingford.
He is survived by his wife, JoAnne Ullman Cichowski ; three sons, Christopher J. Cichowski of Meriden, Gregory J. Cichowski of Wallingford and Joseph W. Cichowski Jr. of Milford; two daughters, Leigh Ann Cei of Yalesville and Cheryl L. Smeriglio of Yalesville; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Gloria L. Creto of Wallingford; and several nieces and nephews. A granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Cichowski , died previously.
Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 N. Main Street Ext., Wallingford. The funeral will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Church. Burial will be in In Memoriam Cemetery in Wallingford.
