Hi Peggi,
Nice to hear from you! I think I met your mom once long ago... Met several
of the uncles (I think it was Buddy who always asked me how things were in
"Mindianapolis"!) and a few cousins... I went to a reunion years back and may
even have met you! But I was a little shy and surrounded by Cianchette-folk!
Got to ride in the pontoon plane though!
So sad about Dick. I didn't feel I ought to go to the funeral since Dan is
remarried now, but I called and talked to Richard for awhile. I think it hit
Dan pretty hard. My boys tried to go up for the funeral but couldn't get a
flight--they're going to Mpls this weekend to see Dan. They actually went to the
reunion in Maine that didn't happen this last summer! Dan and my boys and
maybe Beth, too, made plans to attend, bought their tickets, met Robert in New
York and arrived in Maine only to find the reunion had been cancelled and they
hadn't heard! So they had a mini-reunion among themselves. A grand time was
had by all and I'm so glad my boys got to experience (!) Dick in all his glory
so recently. And I think it was great for Ethel to have so much of her family
together at one time! Wish I could have been a fly upon the wall...
I think I saw a copy of the Cianchette book you mention--but I don't think we
ever got one. (Happy to pay for postage and copying if you'd like to send
one!) I do a lot of genealogy on my own family (doing some DNA projects now)
and every now and then I do a little hunting on Cianchettes. I created the
Cianchette list at Rootsweb a couple of years ago in case anyone wants a forum
(free) to talk about "roots and branches" but it hasn't been wildly popular! In
fact, you and I are the only people who've ever used it! It is archived,
though, so if anyone wants to post info there it can be searched anytime...
Have you ever looked at the Ellis Island records? There are 3 listings for
"Raffaele Cianchetta" - 2 are from Sulmona (1904 & 1923). Apparently we have
2 different guys here since one was 17 and the other 22... Interesting, eh?
And did you know there were 64 Cianchettas (or close variants) who came thru
Ellis Island? And I always thought there was only one family here--yours!
Maybe we should start a DNA project for them and see if they're all related--any
idea about the history or meaning of the name? Just curious...
Hmmm.. I just realized I have a birthdate of 1885 for Dominic and a birthdate
of 1895 for Ralph. Something's wrong with that picture! Maybe based on
records below?
27.Domenico Cianchetta Sulmona 1905 18 97%
55.Raffaele Cianchetta Sulmona, Italy 1904 17 97%
56.Raffaele Cianchetta Sulmona, Italy 1923 22 97%
our Ralph must be the 2nd?
22.Concezio Cianchetta Sulmona, Italy 1917 27 97%
is this "Concetta"??? age is about right...
Did Dominic have brothers who came over? And sisters? There are several
other Cianchettas from Sulmona. Was Agostino Dominic's father? He's be about
the right age...
Must get back to bookkeeping now... Hope to hear from you again!

(mom of Daniel & Adam Rutledge Cianchette)
