June 8 2003 I posted a message about my search for this ancestor, identified
as #138 in Churchill Family in America.
Joseph CHURCHILL (Benjamin, Benjamin, William, John). Born in
Middleboro MA. I've found a new clue to share and I'd like some opinions
about this. Can I consider this a primary source? How would you go about
corroborating it? Also any suggestions about going beyond Churchill Family
in America to link him back up the line to John Churchill the immigrant. CFA
doesn't give me a good solid feeling about him.
Yesterday at the Family History Center I looked at their microfilm #22,395.
It contained transcriptions from family bibles in Rhode Island, microfilmed
in Providence in 1950. The transcriptions were apparently typed in 1933 by
Josephine Keefer Short, listed a main author. I could find nothing to tell
me where the particular Bible was in 1933 nor where the transcription was
held in 1950.
The particular transcription I was so eager to see was called simply
Churchill Family Bible, in vol 4 of this set. Some of these dates vary a
little from CFA, and it includes some children who died young and were not
in CFA. What is most important to me is that it gives a first name to his
wife, identified in CFA only as _ Williams. Naturally what is most
frustrating now is trying to link her up with her ancestors.

When I looked at 1790 census Rhode Island, Providence County, Glocester
Township I found what I believe was this family. And not too far away was
the household of Squire Williams father of two women who married Pardon and
Williams Churchill. And that may be a hunt for a different list.
Thanks for any suggestions on my next step.
