Listed there is:
James Churchill m. Mary A. Beard 9/25/1855
Ophelia V. Churchill m. Jerome B. Classen 12/25/1860
Both listings have the name of the officiant performing the marriage and the

I am interested in Ophelia V. Chuchill as she may be Ophelia VanGorder
Churchill. Just speculation on my part.
Does anyone have any further information on these Churchills?

Isabella Churchill m. Augustus C. Baldwin, Esq.
The marriage was posted in the Pontiac Courier on 26/10/1842 and in the
Pontiac Jacksonian on 28/10/1842.
Does anyone know if the designation of Esquire was used exclusively for
attorneys in 1842? Or was there some other meaning at that time?
Also, which line does Isabella Churchill connect to?

Listed there is:
Edward Churchill, 65, married before, m. Betsy Smith, married before.
The grooms parents are listed as Kit and Francis Churchill and the mother of

There are some brief notations regarding Edward in the write up. It appears
that the marriage was performed around 1861.
I don't have a copy of the CFA book and forget now whether African American

June 8 2003 I posted a message about my search for this ancestor, identified
as #138 in Churchill Family in America.
Joseph CHURCHILL (Benjamin, Benjamin, William, John). Born in
Middleboro MA. I've found a new clue to share and I'd like some opinions
about this. Can I consider this a primary source? How would you go about
corroborating it? Also any suggestions about going beyond Churchill Family
in America to link him back up the line to John Churchill the immigrant. CFA
doesn't give me a good solid feeling about him.
Yesterday at the Family History Center I looked at their microfilm #22,395.
It contained transcriptions from family bibles in Rhode Island, microfilmed
in Providence in 1950. The transcriptions were apparently typed in 1933 by
Josephine Keefer Short, listed a main author. I could find nothing to tell
me where the particular Bible was in 1933 nor where the transcription was
held in 1950.
The particular transcription I was so eager to see was called simply
Churchill Family Bible, in vol 4 of this set. Some of these dates vary a
little from CFA, and it includes some children who died young and were not
in CFA. What is most important to me is that it gives a first name to his
wife, identified in CFA only as _ Williams. Naturally what is most
frustrating now is trying to link her up with her ancestors.

When I looked at 1790 census Rhode Island, Providence County, Glocester
Township I found what I believe was this family. And not too far away was
the household of Squire Williams father of two women who married Pardon and
Williams Churchill. And that may be a hunt for a different list.
Thanks for any suggestions on my next step.

Here is the link to the Access Genealogy main page. There is a free
biographies section that includes a biography of a Mr. J.A. Churchill who was a native
and educator in Ohio, who apparently removed to Baker County, Oregon.
I just went to the "C " link and scanned for Churchill and found the entry.
There is a photograph of J.A. Churchill with the biography.

Here is the link from the Access Genealogy site for "American Prisoners of
the Revolution" - I believe the author is DANSKE DANDRIDGE. I haven't read the
entire online account, however, I did check the alphabetical listings for
Prisoners held on the Old Jersey for the Churchill surname. There is a John
Churchill on the Prisoner list. What I have read so far is most interesting
and well written.
Which Churchill family does this John Churchill come from?

You will need to scan down towards the end of the page for the letters of the
alphabet.

Having a senior moment this morning. My last posting was from the "D"

there.
Anyway, I went back to the "C" section and found Bertha Churchill m. W.D.

There is an entry for:

Also there is this entry that appears to have the individual's first name as

Churchil?

While reading the latest Rootsweb review I found a new US military data base.
The contributor has done a great job with the database.
Here is the link:
http://userdb.rootsweb.com/military/
On the first page scroll down to the search boxes and enter Churchill - no
first name - keep the default set at "Any" for the Wars.
Be sure to check out the View/add notes section as there is more information
regarding the Veteran there.
This is by no means a complete list of all Churchills who served in the US
Military.
Here are the two Churchill Veterans listed:
CHURCHILL, Earl R. WW1 1st LT Unit: Co.F 110th Infantry NY
CHURCHILL, Roy E World War II
I hope someone connects to them.

I was off the list for a while due to health problems and would like to
subscribe to the newsletter that was mentioned last August on the list. Also, I am
interested in the Churchill Association.
Is the Churchill Association only for descendants of John of Plymouth or for
all Churchill lines.
I always think of my line, which descends from Josiah of Wethersfield as the
"Susquehanna Churchills." My 2nd great grandmother was Olive Churchill b.
June 02, 1823 in Elmira, NY married (2) Sept. 05, 1852 Nathaniel Nehemiah French,
died Dec. 10, 1887 in Roulette, Potter County, PA and is buried with Nehemiah
in the John Lyman Cemetery in Roulette.
Children of Olive Churchill and Nehemiah French:
1. Baby Girl French - did not survive infancy
2. John C. French b. Aug. 13, 1856, Port Allegheny, McKean County, PA m.
Effie Deans Donshea, d. Nov. 06, 1934 Roulette, Potter Co., PA buried in the
John Lyman Cemetery, Roulette. (My great grandparents)
3. Esther Elizabeth French b. April 19, 1862, Clara, McKean County,
Pennsylvania m. William H. Hazen.
Olive married (1) James Samson. Children: George Samson, Joseph A. Samson*.
Olive appears on the 1850 Census for Charleston Township, Tioga County,
Pennsylvania with George age 4 years and Joseph J. age 4 months.
All correspondence and legal documents in my possession are use the Joseph A.
Samson.
Lemuel Churchill and Asa Gildersleeve Churchill were among the first four
settlers of
Whitneyville, Charleston Township, Tioga County, Pennsylvania. (From the
History of Tioga County, Pennsylvania, W.W. Munsell and Co., NY 1883. Typed by
Jeanette Hulse for the Tri-Counties Genealogy Sites by Joyce M. Tice.)
_______
Olive's ancestry is:
parents: William Tryon Churchill and Elizabeth Hopper
Lemuel Churchill m. Patience Gildersleeve
William Churchill m. Ruth Tryon (there is a 2nd wife, Olive descend from
Ruth)
Ensign Samuel Churchill m. Martha Boardman
Joseph Churchill m. Mary ?
Josiah of Wethersfield m. Elizabeth Foote
_______
My great grandfather went by the name of John Churchill French, however, it
is not known at this time whether Churchill was his middle name from birth or
whether this was Grandpa's "pen name." His signature typically was John C.
French and he was referred to as John C. or J.C. French most of his life.
John C. French was the author of and contributor to several books regarding
Pennsylvania wildlife and folklore/music.
"From his book the Passenger Pigeon of Pennsylvania" John C. French author,
is written:
Two young men climbed Tuscarora Hill, north of the Cowanesque, to find the
"top of the world." That was in 1836 and they were about 17 years old. One was
Nehemiah French, my father, and the other was John Churchill, my mother's
eldest brother. The story continues with the boys meeting and old Indian,
Chingachkun and then concludes "The boys found the top of the world, where the
rivers start from."
