Hello Everyone
I am searching for John Churchill who was married to Emma Dorothy. Their son Frank Churchill was born in 1849 in Sholapoor, Bombay, India where John was an Assistant Chaplain at the time. Emma died in India, and I am not sure what happened to John. Frank married Anna Beatrice Arrowsmith and in 1901 he was an Anglican Clergyman at Everdon Entire Northamptonshire. They had one son Reggie Churchill who was a Naval Chaplain and for a time was the Chaplain at St Georges Chapel, Windsor Castle.
I believe John and Emma had another son Charles J.S. Churchill who was an Assistant School Master in Shrewsbury in 1881, and in 1901 is described as as a Clergyman Schoolmaster in St Julian. He married Cecilia Furneaux.
I have no idea where John Churchill was born, but I do wonder if he was originally from Dorset. If anyone could help me further with members of this family then I would be very grateful.
Dorothy
Does anyone on the list have information on the children of Elija Lyman
and Elizabeth (Rose) Churchill (Giles6, Elija5, Giles4, Samuel3,
Joseph2, Josiah1) of the American Connecticut Churchills?
Bill Churchill
I am seeking details about this Joseph Churchill, identified as 138 in
Churchill Family in America.
"JOSEPH CHURCHILL (BENJAMIN, BENJAMIN, WILLIAM, JOHN). Born in Middleboro.
He served in the war of the Revolution, three brief terms of enlistment in
the year 1779, viz., March 14, for thirty days, under Captain Wilmarth at
Howland's Ferry; from May 20 to July 1, at Tiverton, R.I., and from Aug. 13
to Sept. 13, 1779; It is supposed that after the war he settled in Rhode
Island at either Gloucester or Scituate. In 1792 he had a deed of land from
Jabez Williams, of Gloucester, and was himself of Gloucester. One of his
grandsons, writing of him in 1900, says he was a poor man and did not keep
his family together. So it seems that they scattered early, and settled
later, in different localities. Three of the sons removed to Pennsylvania,
as will be seen, while the daughters, it is said, married and lived in
central Massachusetts. He married in Rhode Island (---) WILLIAMS, a
descendant of Roger."
Is there any one else pursuing this man and his descendants? It seems to me
that he is the weak link back to the preceding Churchill line. There were
other Joseph Churchills around New England, probably from the CT line, and
it is hard to verify his presence anywhere.
I am descended from his son Williams (not a typo) Churchill who was one of
several who went to Pennsylvania.
Anna
