This was posted on the Oxfordshire list recently:
FROM A FRIENDLY villager
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and the date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who cares
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

Georgeann,
I have no Griffins in my database. I checked Churchill Family in America.
There are Griffins in the Connecticut and Manhattan families but no Edward
or John. Did you get any other responses?
Bill Churchill

Subject: Mary (CHURCHILL) GRIFFIN born before 1843
1st post to this list:
Mary Churchill married Edward or John GRIFFIN (my direct ancestors). Their
daughter Bridget Griffin (1863- 9 Sep 1930) married Peter GARRITY. Peter
and
Bridget (GRIFFIN) GARRITY lived in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio where he
owned a saloon. He might have also lived in Dayton, Montgomery County,
Ohio.
I've been so focused on my Irish research, that I haven't begun to search
for her ancestry due to her common name. Thanks.

p.s. I read some of the threads about modeling an association/society
similar to www.morsesociety.org I've spoken with Stafford-Ames MORSE of
their group several times. I manage two surname rootsweb lists and hope to
get something similar going.
I am interested in learning more about how this is progressing. I've been
intensely researching several surnames for five years, and the MORSE
society
strategy has been the most effective I've encountered.
