One of my Churchill relatives is trying to trace an English Churchill branch
that
lived in Oxfordshire. In the late 1600s a William Churchill from this
branch came to Middlesex, Virginia. There are descendents today. Does
anyone
have information on or contacts with Virginia Churchills?
Background: I've been trying to track down the English origin of the Henry
Churchill from Rochester, MA that married Mary Doty. As you probably know
the English Churchills had an aversion to given name Henry until after King
Henry VIII's time. In the 1600s, there were only two branches of the
family that used Henry - the Dorchester Collitons and the Oxfordshire
family. I believe that I now have tracked down all the Dorchester Henrys.
I'm trying to get a handle on the Oxfordshire Churchill branch.
Thanks.

My great-grandfather Dearborn MOSES, of Quincy, MA changed his name to
Moses CHURCHILL 25 Mar 1845. Interesting, on the same day, Geroge DRIVER
of Quincy changed his name to George W. CHURCHILL, and George SUTHERLAND
of Quincy changed his name to George CHURCHILL. [List of persons whose
names changed in MA 1780-1892].
Family tradition is that Dearborn changed his name "on a whim".
He was a stone cutter, and a major stone firm in Quincy was owned by a
CHURCHILL, so I speculate there may be some connection.

The nursery rhyme Ring Around The Rosey is a rhyme about the plague.
Infected people with the plague would get red circular sores (Ring Around the

of the sores (a pocket full of poseys...) People who died from the plague
would be burned so as to reduce the possible spread of the disease (ashes,

I am looking for the six supplements to the original Churchill Family in
America book by Gardner and Asaph Churchill. Either a sale or some purchase
of a copy would provide me with the background information which I am
seeking for a family genealogy record.
Thank you.
