I'm trying to establish if Elizabeth (Mills) Church b. Nov 13, 1733, Bellingham, Norfolk, MA, the daughter of Rev. Jonathan Mills, and is listed in his 1769 will as Elizabeth Church, was the wife of Malachi Church, of Hadley, MA, Brattleboro, VT, and late of Canada. Her age is right and naming sons Oliver Church and Jonathan Mills Church would be consistent with family naming patterns as her grandfather should be Oliver Hayward or at the very least son Oliver Church could also be named for his uncle Oliver Woolcott, husband of Abagail Mills.
My true interest is trying to figure out if she was the sister of John Mills of Braintree who is believed to be the same person as John Mill(s) late of Brattleboro mentioned in a Vermont Gazette notice on 10 Mar 1787 and believed to be the husband of the "Widow" Mills listed in 1789 tax records and in the 1790/91 Vermont census who died in Brattleboro before 1793.
There is strong circumstantial evidence to support this belief. Capt. Artemas Howe is connected to the Church family in Brattleboro via serving under Lt. Col. Timothy Church and having his son Ruben Church in his Company. Artemas Howe is also connected to Lt. Jonathan Church via a letter to Congress in 1783 concerning Charles Phelps Sr., Artemas Howe was appointed to look into the claims of John Mill(s) late of Brattleboro in 1787. Artemas Howe's son Moses Howe's marriage to Anna Mills in Brattleboro in about 1787, who age would be consistent of John and Ann (Lothrop) Mills daughter, Ann Mills. Bathsheba Mills of Brattleboro marriage to Samuel Carpenter in 1788 would be consistent with John and Ann (Lothrop) Mills of Braintree having a daughter Bathsheba Mills, and other consisted patterns to the names of their children.
