Troy's father Larry Joe Church aka Joe Church was born Feb. 24, 1936 near or in Hundred, WV. L. Joe Church died in Oklahoma near Eufaula, OK in the summer of 2006 or 2007 of heart issues and cancer. L. Joe Church married Betty L. Hedrick (maiden name) Betty L. Urbanoski at time of marriage to Church in 1960. Their only son Troy Wayne Church was born Sept. 30, 1964 in Waynoka, OK.
Larry Joe Church had an older brother Jim(His name may have been James) Church 14 years older that worked for a pie factory near Barberton, Ohio. Jim married Geraldine aka Gerry, and they had 3 children Cynthia, Sandy (may be Sandra), & Jimmy Church. They all lived in Barberton, OH where Cynthia, Sandy, & Jimmy went to school. Geraldine still lives in the family home, Cynthia, & Sandy both married & still live near their mother. Jimmy moved to Oklahoma & currently resides in Hugo, OK.
L. Joe & Jim Church's parents were named Chauncey & Gladys Church. Gladys also went by G. They were devout members of the Church of Christ. I don't know if Chauncey was a first or middle name. They lived just outside of Hundred,. WV when I met them in 1960, then later moved to a house they built near Burton next to an elderly couple named Hostetler. Chauncey & G had an old wooden oil derrick in their yard when I knew them. After Chauncey's death, Gladys aka G moved back to downtown Hundred, WV. When they lived near Burton, we lived there near them for a few months & I attended the Burton Elementary School where one room was 1st - 3rd grade, and the other was 4th - 6th. There was a Gymnasium/Auditorium in the center of the building, and then a room on the opposite side with older kids that were still in elementary school, and next to that room was the lunch room.
L. Joe Church worked most of his life as a cross country pipeline worker, foreman, assistant Superintendent, & Superintendent for various pipeline companies including working as a Superintendent for H.C. Price on the Alaska Pipeline during the mid 1970's. There is a story about L. Joe Church that goes that when he was 8 years old, he got mad at his parents and decided to run away from home. But unlike most kids who only go a block or two at most, he got on his bicycle and rode it from Hundred, WV to his brother's house in Barberton, OH. I'm not sure how far that was, but I remember it taking hours to make the drive by car.
