hypothyroidism,. My wife, a descendant of Richard Church and Elizabeth Warren, has the same condition. As I walk my mothers medical past, I also believe that following ones medical ancestry can extend the time we have for genealogical research. Our CHURCH ancestry includes many other families involved in the forming of this nation. Please contact me at dnaschr(a)yahoo.com or by responding here. Thanks, Bob Brown, RI

My Jonathan Hunt who married "a Church", was a Baptist. Baptists are notorious for lack of records, so that is what I think happened with my guy.
I recently learned that in Vermont for about 10 years in the late 1700's there was a tax to support the major church. You could be exempt if you proved you supported another church. I went through town records on familysearch.org for Bennington County and Windham County (not indexed for Bennington Co. and time consuming), and found that Jonathan applied for a tax exemption because he was a Baptist. That was in Windham County, right next to Bennington County.

(My Jonathan, third one down on the left page) We knew he was in Bennington County and his brother was in Windham County. That was how this record was located.
In case you search Vermont records, some of them have indexes, some do not. These Windham records have an index in the middle here: Vermont, Town Clerk, Vita...d Town Records, 1732-2005 => Windham => Halifax =>Births, marriages, deaths...cords 1772-1842 vol 1A-2A
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1971-27949-570-67?cc=1987653&wc=... (image 349 for C)
I can't tell if all of the names there are "Clark" or some are "Church".
Might that be something to look into?
Barbara

Tom, thank you for this very complete record, but unfortunately, this would
not be the family. On the 1860 census for Newton MA, Benoni ("Benni") is
listed as born abt 1815 and Fanny abt 1827. The 1851 death for Fanny would
make her appearance here impossible--not to mention the births of the two
younger children. The Fannie I am interested in was b. 1809.

I have been lost in the weeds of Dorset, Bennington, Vermont and multiple Church families for at least 25 years in the search for Fannie Church who was said to have been born in Hartford. Well, she probably wasn't. She was likely born in Sunderland, Franklin MA. Her parents were Dr. Samuel and Sabra Farnum Church; Samuel was from Hartford CT and Sabra was from Sunderland.
Unfortunately, Fannie had been "married off" by earlier researchers to two men who were neighbors, and it took years to correct that misinformation so that I could get to the real information. And no, as far as I can see, she did not live in Bennington, though she may have visited a sibling there.
As for the Vermont search, I have been through that one, too. I even believed for a while that she belonged in one VT family, but I was wrong.
So if you're still on that search, you might check out this family and see if one of its many offspring might be yours, after all.
Best wishes!
Maureen

I am looking for any clues that show an Oliver Church and Margaret
Pangborn living in Vermont. The only thing I have to go on is a Canadian
Census that says they are both from Vt. Their son Oliver according to a
History Book was born in Danbury Vt. but there is no record of such a
place and searching Census records we cannot find the family anywhere
but in Canada. Oliver was born abt 1773 and that is all we know. Some
people show Oliver married to Jemima Richards but that is a mistake and
is an entirely different Oliver 20 years Older. If anyone is searching
for these Church's in Canada or the U.S. please contact me.

Do you have any "Church" family members who perhaps married a Hunt?
My Jonathan Hunt married "a Church" and lived in Bennington County, Vermont for quite a few years. I'm trying to track down which "Church" line. He would have married around 1780 because their first child was born in 1782 - back in CT.
There is a record of Jonathan serving in the Revolutionary War in VT where his brother moved. Because he was in VT around that time, I'm wondering if the Church family was from Vermont also.

Ok. I am descended from Anna Church Byers. She is supposedly Yankee John Church and Jane Andrews' daughter, but there is no proof of their marriage or children. Although there is no direct proof, it seems like this is the most common thought that she is their daughter.
>From going on that theory, I was looking into Yankee John. Now, some say that he was from the North, specifically Sheffield, MA. Some say he is the son of John Church and Anne Curtis, others Josiah Church and Thankful Brooks. Others even say he may not have come from the North.
Now, to try and solve this, I went and looked at the other Church's on the early Wilkes County censuses. On the 1800 Wilkes census, there are 4 listed:
-John Church
-Amous Church
-Elisha Church
-William Church
Now, according to Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988, there was a John b. 1732 and an Elijah b. 1741 (sometimes spelled Elisha) there were sons of John and Thankful Church.
However, Yankee John was also known to have a son named Elijah, and he may have been old enough to live on his own.
But what about William or Amos? Could they be brothers? I'm just looking for any other relatives that could have any more leads. I know this is a bone of contention. I'm just trying to get some hold on Anna's story.
