Of course, I am not 100% sure on this information, but it is all I have available.

The date is about right but what proof do you have that Stephen Pangborn had a daughter named Margaret? Do you have documented proof or is it speculation. There are a lot of trees out there that also show this Oliver as the son of Malachi which we know is false, other trees show him married to Jemima which is also false. Excuse me for me cautious but I like documented proof.. So far all we know about Oliver and Margaret is they supposedly were born in Vermont. At least that is what 1 Canadian Census says. Oliver and Margaret's son Oliver Jr. is said to have been born in Danbury Vt. but we know that it doesn't exist and never has existed. But I am curious about Stephen..

Yes, that is the Margaret, but more exactly it's the mother of her husband Stephen that I/we are interested in. A number of trees give Stephen's parents as Joseph Pangborn and Mary Mills. The idea was that perhaps there is a connection between that Mary Mills and the Elizabeth Mills, b and d dates uncertain, who married Malachi Church, b circa 1732, d 1776.
Can you shed any light on the various Mills lines?
thx,
paul c

Hello Rita,
Thank you for looking in Alice Church's book, "A Genealogy and History of the Church Family in America, 1948" for Caleb Church and Hannah Baker -- and confirming they are NOT in the book. I assume this reference is to my ancestors who lived in Ulster County, New York.
Their son Benjamin Church moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in 1835 where he was a pioneer carpenter and builder.
Fortunately they are in the book "Descendants of Richard Church of Plymouth, Mass." -- but in the back section for Church individuals with unproven connections to Richard Church.
If anyone is aware of new research on Caleb Church and Hannah Baker, I hope to hear from you.
Barbara

According to family lore, John Church was a travelling Methodist minister (possibly married to Charity) whose son James (born 1820), settled in Marion County, SC with his three sons, Asbury Whiteford, John Asa, and William Henry (mother Celia M. Brewer). I would love to have some info on John and Charity. The closest I can approximate on dates would be mid to late 1700's to early 1800's.

Would you look in your book and see if there is a reference to a Benjamin Church who was born in NC in I believe Rowan co NC in the 1750's and was the son of a Yankee John Church and possibly a Mrs Stamper but I am not sure about that. The family later moved to Wilkes co NC. I know he went to Georgia. My ancestor was Jane hurch and she was bon about 1810. I think she was Banjamin Church's daughter. thanks, Ross rsmith6670(a)msn.com thanks, Ross

Now that is an interesting angle. I have never seen it because I have never seen a tree for Margaret but being related through Margaret is a link worth looking at if I could find anything on her.

Regarding the Jonathan Mills Church connection, I've seen trees where Margaret Pangborn's father is one Stephen Pangborn whose mother was a Mary Mills. Don't remember seeing objective sources however. I'm trying to learn a little more about that Pangborn-Mills line to see if this Mary Mills was related to Elizabeth Mills who was apparently Jonathan's mother, ie., Oliver 1773 might have been related by marriage rather than blood to Jonathan.

I am looking for information on my 3rd great grandparents, Samuel and Nancy Shuman Church. Samuel was born in Connecticut in 1800, Nancy in New Hampshire in 1808. They moved to Rock County, WI sometime after 1841 and apparently lived in New York because all of their four children (Nelson, Hannah, Lucy, and Mary) were born there. I have been unable to find any earlier information on them even though there are many Church family references in Connecticut.
If you know of anything in any of these states, I would appreciated knowing.
