Hello Church cousins,
No matter your branch of the Church family, I thought you would enjoy the story about a private citizen who discovered the need to re-roof Milwaukee's historic Benjamin Church House, today a small museum of early Milwaukee life. The Greek Revival house was rescued in the 1930s and moved to Estabrook Park where visitors can tour it in the summer.
Here is the story from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
=> http://www.jsonline.com/news/milwaukee/residents-lead-efforts-to-repair-h...
Benjamin F. Church was a pioneer builder in Milwaukee, coming in 1835 from New Paltz, Ulster County, New York. He was the son the Caleb Church and Hannah Baker. Here is the biographical sketch about him that I wrote for Wikipedia:
=> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_F._Church
You can read more about this branch of the Church tree in the book Descendants of Richard Church of Plymouth, Mass. -- in the section on Unplaced Members. Here is the explanation of how Caleb and sister Phoebe were thought to fit into this Church family
=> http://archive.org/stream/descendantsofric00chur#page/320/mode/2up
Find Cabel and Hannah on page 322 and Benjamin with his parents and siblings on page 323:
=> http://archive.org/stream/descendantsofric00chur#page/322/mode/2up
If anyone is researching this part of the Church family, I'd love to hear from you.
Best wishes,
Barbara

I, too, am looking for my Churches in Ohio. In this case, the Church is
a woman whose maiden name was Fannie Church. She was born in Hartford
CT in 1808, and she was married to Nathaniel Eggleston Hooker in the
late 1820s. They migrated to Lucas County OH in the mid-1830s, settling
in several small towns near the western edge of Lake Erie. Fannie and
Nathaniel had six sons, three born in Ohio and three in Connecticut.
Fannie died in September 1854; she was buried at Wakeman Cemetery in
Waterville, Lucas OH. Any ideas would be most appreciated!

So it appears that things are just copied, repeated, and then copied over again by others.

Got lots of information on my Col. Timothy Church, Reuben Church I, and other Churches' regarding the land grants received from the State of New York as compensation for being "Sufferer's" in the opposition of Ethan Allen and the "pretended" State of Vermont who was taking New York land for their own.

The Bobby/Robert Church we are searching for may have been born at the hospital in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. His parents, Cecil Collyge and Lena Mae Rose asked her parents to raise him (they were already raising their first son) but they refused. His parents left the hospital without him though they had reportedly named him "Bobby".

I know that the Churchs lived in Allen County, Ohio. In 1848 Auglaize County was carved out of Allen County, which may account for some confusion about places. I have to check if I have any actual records regarding P. W. Church, aka Walt, and his wife Elizabeth Reece. I should send for PW's will. I do have them on the 1850 US Federal Census. You can contact me by email at rita.guzzo_47(a)verizon.net.
