Hello,
I am seeking confirmation that the George Church born 9 Feb 1819 in Ulster County, New York, son of Caleb Church and Hannah (Baker) Church and brother of Benjamin Church, is the same person as George W. Church found in Wisconsin in the 1860, 1870 and 1880 census records.
I recently came across this 1935 article from the Wisconsin Historical Society with recollections about George W Church from his son A. P. Church: http://bit.ly/GeorgeWChurch [The son's full name is Alfred Pike Church].
The article states that George W. Church was an early settler in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and that his brother was Benjamin Church. I know that Benjamin Church -- my 3rd great-grandfather -- was also an early Milwaukee settler and had a brother George as shown in New York materials [another brother's biosketch].
I have confirmed much of the information in the article, such as A.P. Church's brothers, so I feel that article is pretty accurate. I have also found an 1880 Census record with a G. W. Church, his wife and 6 children -- including sons named Alfred and George W. Church.
Finally, I have found that Benjamin Church bought land in 1839 in Germantown outside Milwaukee -- including in Section 32 SE. And that George Church was enumerated in the 1860 Census in Germantown -- with notes showing he lived in Section 32 SE.
This all seems to be a quite good match, but I am interested in any other information about George W. Church and his family to confirm the connection.
Thank you.
Barbara
