Oh my gosh, Randy. What a treasure you have posted for Church researchers! I think I was able to answer a question that a Church descendant sent to me just yesterday regarding a Samuel Church born in 1640 in Watertown MA.
Thank you so much,

Thanks Randy, for placing Mrs. Pierce's information online to share with others and for letting me know about it. I enjoyed reading her work "Ancestors of Ezra Bliss Church", but unfortunately it didn't specifically provide information on my "brick wall" [Abigail Church, b-1/25/1763 d-12/26/1839 Lee, Berkshire Co., MA m-1/12/1783 Danbury, Fairfield Co., CT Joseph Jarvis b-5/14/1752 Norwalk (or Danbury), Fairfield Co. Hello!
I am hoping for some help as I am not sure where to go from here.
Is it possible that the Elija & Elisha are the same person? How do we know that there were two of them?
My pedigree is:
Me
Living Church - 1958
John Elbert Church - 1902 - 1980 (Paper Confirmed)
Noah William Church (or Wm. N. Church) - 1861 - **** (Paper Confirmed)
Eli C. Church - 1841 - 1890 (Paper Confirmed)
JOHN CHURCH - 1816 - 1895 (SUSPECTED)
ELISHA CHURCH - 1775 - 1859 (SUSPECTED)
Yankee John - (SUSPECTED)
To all those that have anything past Eli C Church (1841), how do you back this up with paper? I'm not sure where to look and I feel shaky going off others work with no paper backup visible. Do you have the paper work and haven't posted it on the site yet? Maybe stashed away somewhere?
I know about Gutave Anjou and therefore I am very wary of the backup. Also, so far my markers on the CHURCH site are a bit strange. No one claims lineage to Yankee John there, however my markers thus far match kit 71303, "B Church" but owner of that kit has NO contact info and NO earliest known ancestor.
Where do I go next? I apologize for so many questions but I finally have people to TALK to about this and its been bottled up for 10 years. Thank you for reading my ramblings!
Amy

Ok - I see some posts that mention Church Females in their lineage and others asking about what test to purchase.
Some things to note are:
1.)Females only carry MtDNA. This was passed from our mother's mother's mother's mother etc.
2.)Males carry MtDNA and Y DNA. They carry the MtDNA of their mother, and the Y DNA from their father's father's father's father etc.
This means if your lineage is from a female descendant, you will have her mother's MtDNA and whoever she married's Y DNA. You would have to find her brother or a descendant of her brother to obtain the Y DNA markers.
On another note, it appears I may be a direct descendant of Yankee John Church, however paper trail only goes back to his grandson, not his son Elisha as I previously thought. I don't know where to find documentation to PROVE John Church (1816 - 1895) was Elisha Church's son.
I got my Father to take the first test which is 12 markers, and we are waiting on results from the 67 marker test. You do not have to buy all the markers, but the best analogy I can think of is:
12 marker vesus a 67 marker test is like narrowing a location down to a state versus a house number.
I urge all of those that can afford it to get Y DNA tested - it is a WONDERFUL tool to reinforce your lineage. I am so happy to help anyone that has questions, wants reviews on companies etc. Please send me a message!
Thanks :)

Rita,
Thanks again, so much.
The only proof I have that Cyrenus is the son of Samuel is a land record where Cyrenus Church q.c.ed land in Dorset that states that he received this land "from my Honorable father Samuel Church". There were two Samuel Churchs in Dorset for a while, one later moved to Fletcher, VT. I was able to straighten them out by the numerous land records. The Samuel Church, father of Cyrenus, was named "Samuel Church Jr." in the first couple of land records. I was never able to determine if the two Samuels were differentiated by one being older and mine younger (or junior in age), or if my Samuel was the son of a Samuel, hence Jr. I have been unable to find any probate records for Samuel.?Both Samuel Churchs of Dorset, VT served in the Rev. War from Connecticut and received pensions.
Does the Alice Church book give any place in CT where John/Joana Church lived, or precedents Samuel, Edward or Richard??
Can't begin to tell you how much this helps in my searching.
Sandra

There is only one child listed for Samuel, on page 47 of the Alice church
book:
Samuel Church, Jr., b. 1803, d. 1865, mar. 1832 to Parmelia Foster, b. 1808,
d. 1858. They had one child: Anna Maria Church.
Reference for this information is: D.A.R. Lineage Vol. 96, pg. 217.
There is no Cyrenus Church listed nor a Phoebe Harrington. I guess next
step is to find a will form Samuel bapt. 11/3/1745 d. 1838 in Dorset, VT and
check out the D.A.R. Lineage.
Rita
P.S. Please remember that any printed genealogy may contain errors. It's a
clue to point you in the right direction to find documents that will verify
the information.

Rita,
Would you please look in your book for Samuel Church b. ca 1756 d. 1838 Dorset, VT. He served in the Rev. War from CT. Married poss. Phoebe Knapp, had known children?Sarah b. 1789 b. VT, Cyrenus b. 1792 VT, poss. dau Elizabeth b. 1797, Samuel b. 1804. He may have been related to the Samuel Church who settled in Granville, MA. In his first land record in Vermont he is?named as Samuel Church Jr.?Could he be the son of Samuel Church and Sarah (Stephenson) of Granville, VT, and a descendant of Garrett Church? Any help would be so appreciated. This has been my stumbling block for over 20 years.
Sandra?

Hi Maureen,
Who was Fannie Church's husband? I find her as a child of Samuel Church b.
10 Jan 1790 in Amherst, Mass. and Sabra Farnum, in the Alice Church book.
This was the only Fannie that had a birthdate, and it was 18 Oct 1809. In
the book she married Increase Graves and Benoni Graves.
Hope this helps.
Rita

Hello--
It is possible that the Church line I am looking for is that of Richard
Church of Hartford, but so far, I have been unable to locate my ancestor
anywhere in that family, If anyone can help, I would be most grateful.
The ancestor I know about is Fannie Church b. abt. 1809, reportedly in
Hartford. And that is all I know for sure. After years of searching in the
Hartford group, I have gone further afield.
The only clue I have that the Charles Lot Church family might be the one I
am looking for is the memory of my grandparents speaking that name. It
remains a significant memory for me, so they must have attached some
significance to him.
Thank you for your interest,
Maureen

While there's many years from the founding of Hartford to Fannie Church's birth, the proximity and her marriage partner seem to point strongly toward Richard of Hartford as an ancestor. Unfortunately DNA testing isn't going to help in this case. Have you thoroughly searched Alice Church's genealogy for the Church line? It doesn't have an index and this type of search is laborious, but her work is the most comprehensive I have found for Richard of Hartford.

There was a Captain Thomas Church in charge of Hood Island in the James River in 1607-1611 - He paid taxes there.
I have not been able to find any further records of him other than the Tax Rolls of "The Jamestown Settlement" from 1607-1611.
Does anyone have any other documents on him?

If he died in NYC in 1901 he would have been 57.
