I am still looking for information about Martha Jane Smith Church. She was married to Joseph Church (son of Joel Church), mother of Sampson (Nancy Emeline Anderson), Lewis (Mary Angeline Morris), Franklin (Phoebe Blackburn, Matilda Workman, Nancy Collins), William, Preston and Rueben Church.
I have her death pin-pointed between 1870/75, but would like more information. Any information would be appreciated.

Yes you have made a slight error. Oliver Church and Margaret Pangborn are not proven descendants of Nathaniel nor related in any way. Oliver the son of Malachi married Jemima Richards. Both Olivers lived fairly close to each other and seemed to have some type of relationship but non have been proven. Are you related to Oliver and Margaret or are you related to Oliver and Jemima. It can be noted that Oliver and Jemima lived a fairly wealthy lifestyle being UEL while Oliver and Margaret led a rather impoverished lifestyle never having too much of anything. Oliver and Margaret also had move than three children. For Oliver and Margaret's full line of descendants or most of them I think you can go to http://members.shaw.ca/steeples/oliverchu I think there are a few duplicates but for the most part it is accurate. I am a descendant of Oliver and Margaret through their son William and wife Lydia, and their son William Joseph and Mary Angelina Helferich being my great grandparents.

In my search - Nathaniel and Rachel McCranney father to Malachi wife is Elizabeth Mills - they had 3 children - Elizabeth, Jonathon Mills and Oliver. Oliver and Margaret Pangborn had 3 children (Oliver, Lovilla and William) - Jonathon (had 3 wives) and Mary Munsell parents to Peter Howard Church . If I'm wrong my mistake.

Hi Katie,
Waitsill Singleton Church died in Pr. Georges County. His son Jonathan
Montgomery Church was married in PG at Queen or ST. Ann's Church. I do
not know where that is or if it is still a parish. Perhaps parish
records could tell us something. We have a genealogical library in
Montgomery Co. which I could visit or call to see if such a parish
record exists.
Where Waitstill came from I do not know. I once saw an early census
for PG and several male Church were listed.
I will see what else I can find and send it to you.

Hello,
Years ago , I went to a library to do some research and found that they would soon be closing and so I just went through some books to find what I could in a short amount of time .
I found the following info on 2 Church's and would love to hear from anyone who could tell me more about them . The info was in a book on Connecticut .
------------------------------
State of Ct - town of Norwich........
Doctor Benjamin Church, notorious and needed a strong fence around the prison.
Nov. 21 , 1775 - May 27 , 1776
------------------------------
------------------------------
In June of 1675 - 76
There was a Capt. Benjamin Church in King Philips war. Swansea , MA
------------------------------
It's all the information I have . Hope someone can give me more on them .

Katie- thanks so much. I'm sure it was the LDS society that tested us all at the time- near here. I'll have to contact the church and ask about it- if they know- if they've kept up with it- if,if, if. Ah well. Barb in St Pete

Most testing done is male line only, here is a page to explain that:

Barb Pardun: you asked about blood you have given for a test in the
past. You need to go back to the company you tested with and figure that
out. Most testing including the Church study about is male line testing,
as the link above explains. I know that there are some tests on female
dna, but I don't think that it is surname specific.
Janice Fox : Where is Maryland is your Church line found? I am also
tracing a Maryland Church family that lived in Baltimore. I only wish I
knew a male line Church for dna testing.
I have:
James Church married Jane Hall
Edward James Church 1820-1893 married Frances Elizabeth Buckingham
Louisa Church 1844-1896 married Daniel Eldrige Monroe
I haven't looked at his line in a while, I do have more details about
children and such.

Another Church line which cannot be traced back passed the 1700s is that
of Waitstill Singleton Church of Maryland. No one knows who his parents
were. Perhaps there is no male of this line on the list.
It is my impression that the only sure trace of DNA is the Y chromosome
which applies to males only and that the female lines are untraceable
this way at the present time. Recently a Harvard professor has said
that different companies give different results regarding DNA
identifying ethnic origins. That does not give me any confidence in
that area.

Seventh generation from Waitstill Singleton Church
I'm not sure I understand- I gave blood for my DNA, years back. I can't remember what names I put down- will they use my DNA for my Church line regardless? I have to think I put down the Church name, because it's been one of my big brick walls. Barb Pardun in St Pete, Fla

Nice, it looks like there already is a Church DNA group. Only 4 participants though, we should jump in there and see how the results come out.

You didn't mention Richard Church of Norfolk Co., VA. He was born ca. 1645 and died 15 Feb 1706. I would like to know if he connects to those of New England.

I think the way it works is that if you're belief that you descend from Richard and Ann is correct, the DNA test would indicate you were more closely related to someone with a proven Richard Ann line than one of us from the other lines. If the families aren't related at all, you would only test as close to this one group - and if your origins are with a different Church, that would also be apparent. But I think there's also room for inconclusiveness.

In the case of Ann Marsh DNA wouldn't help you I don't think since most DNA is on the paternal side. I may not be an expert but that is the way I understand it. I may look into it if I figured it would lead me to some kind of relationship with Richard and Ann.
