Hi Val,
Sorry should have said first of all that we are not related. My Church family were all shoemakers and mostly born in St Lukes (Islington) and Shoreditch/Bethnal Green.
I should of said that apart from emigration the reason a family disappears is the spelling of their name is wrong. They are there but the name is spelt differently.Try every possible spelling even riduculous ones. Do you know how many ways there are to spell Ferguson!!!!!!! That was my lastest search. If you tell me exactly what you are searching for I will take a look.A different outlook and all that.I have no connection to anyone in Australia. Came as a "ten pound pom in 1968". .
I just love mysteries...and oh the joy when you solve it.
I have had great success with Genes Reunited. Takes a bit of work to get started but worth it. Not expensive either.
Regards Annice

Hi Annice
Thanks for replying so quick to the message I put on, it was the first one I had put on about the Churches so thats probably why you couldn't find anything. I've done most of my research just by looking at censuses rather than contacting people. I haven't come across an Eliza Church so not sure where she fits in. Is she a relation of Alices? I do know that somewhen between the 1881 and 1891 censuses the family moved from Maidstone Kent to London and had 3 more children Sarah 1882, George 1885 and Ellen 1887. Alice was my husbands grandmother and she died in the 1950's although I don't know exactly when. I do know that there are descendants of Alices in Australia I don't if your related to them at all?
Regards Val in England.

Hello Wrighthere,
Interested in your message as it one of the very few we get on this notice board that doesn't concern american Churches,
had a quick look for you and found nothing.....you have a problem.
Found the marriage of Alfred Church to Emma Simmonds in Maidstone in March 1872 and t 3 children Alice 1874, Henry 1876 and Alfred 1881. There would have been other children but without some reference in one of the census you cannot prove anything.
Without knowing a thing about your family the first thought that came into my head was "This family emigrated to the Colonies"
Strange that they should all disappear.
Happy Hunting regards Annice in Australia g grandadughter of
Eliza Church

I am looking into the Church family that lived in Maidstone Kent in the latter half of the 19th century. In the 1881 census they were living in Wheeler St. Alfred Church was my husbands grt grandfather and his wifes name was Emma or Emily. One of their daughters Alice was my husbands grandmother.

Does anyone have any information on the Church family from Sherburne,
New York? I was traveling down Route 80 in Sherburne and saw the Church
headstone at the cemetery by the road. I stopped and took pictures.
Some of the headstones were of John L. Church, Sr., John L. Church,
Jr., George A. Church. There were also Darling and Sexton's mixed
into the Church family too. I'm guessing that John L. Church was a
descendent of Nathan Church from Newport, RI. But I was hoping to see
if my Church line somehow connects here.
My Church line begins with James Church, b. 1835 CT (don't know
parentage) He married Mary Elizabeth Dorrance of Foster, RI, in 1857 in
Sterling, CT. They had two sons: Charles U. 1859, John H. 1861.
Thanks!!!

Hello
Have you been able to find any more info about Benjamin Church, father of Gabriel Church. Gabriel Church's middle name was Benson I believe. That might have been his mother's maiden name since that is traditionally a last name. Thanks, Ross

I have no idea if this connects, but I have an Anna Church b. 1782.
Some of her family moved to SC. I have no record of her marriage.
She would have been about the right age. Tom Baird

Nancy
I don't have much information except that Benjamin and Jean Church witnessed a land transaction between Justice and a Gideon Reynolds in 1799 in Spartanburg co SC. I descend from Benjamin Church through his daughter Jane born about 1810 and married Solomon Ray in 1829 in Henry co Ga. Benjamin was born in 1763 I believe in Rowan co NC and went to Wilkes co NC with his parents in the 1770's. He apparently married and went to SC. I found a record where three Church girls married in Spartanburg co SC in I believe the 1790's who might have been his daughters. I can not find the record now so I don't know their names or who they married. How are you related to the Church family? thanks, Ross

Jane Foley,
This is Lynda Bloom-DeGroot again. I just read your reply (#2) below and I am sorry that I added to the confusion, and called it a scam! Shame on me! Shows what I know about Rootsweb and these various digests. My confusion, along with others', apparently has only added to more confusion all the way around and I am so sorry.
If you can, I would like to have all of the items: New Year's Eve 1852, Family Photos ( I know: there are no photos) and the Strangers in the Box. However, since there is so much repeated in all these digest messages, it looks like you sent it to me already, but I don't have it.
Here is my e-mail. I hope this will work for us. writeme4747(a)yahoo.com
And thank you very much for your diligence and all your extra work to try to do something nice for others. I appreciate it.

Hello,
I must have missed something because I don't remember seeing what e-mail this one below refers to that was sent by Jane Foley. Could you please explain it with info on the state these photos were from and any names, if possible? I am still looking for my Clara Elizabeth Church born in Schnectady, NY in 1836 and died in Chicago in 1886.

Hi all,
It isn't the administrator who keeps pictures and stuff off the list. It's
Rootsweb. I'm sorry about it because I like to see them, too.

Lynda: THIS IS NOT A SCAM!!!
These are NOT photos. These are 2 poems about family pictures that we
take and never put anyone's name on the back and then when people die who
know who is in the picture, the information in lost forever.
Also, New Year's Eve 1852 is a list of things that our ancestors did
without thinking to keep us as descendants from trying to trace all of our
family
members.
These poems make a nice addition to anyone's genealogy notebook.
Jane Foley
PS If you want copies of any of these, please let me know which ones or
all. Please make sure I have your email address if interested.
PSS I didn't realize the response that my posting would get.
It has been overwhelming to me also. I have received
HUNDREDS of emails and have spent over 19 hours trying to
KEEP MY WORD to people who have requested these items.
The response is still coming in.
I thought I was just making a nice gesture by sharing these items with
serious genealogy researchers. I thought it might add something to their
notebooks.
My original posting had asked for permission to post but it is a busy time
of the year and the administrator either didn't read it or misunderstood it.
A couple of years ago I got into trouble by posting to a website (not this
website) something such as this without permission from the administrator
and rootsweb. I got into big trouble. I do not want that kind of HEAT
AGAIN!!!!
I will be glad to post these to the website BUT WITH THE PERMISSION OF THE
ADMINISTRATOR.
I posted this on Friday at 9:44 AM. It may seem like SEVERAL DAYS to you as
it does to me. And I guess it is by now since this is Wed. evening.
I have found that people DO NOT READ THEIR EMAILS. I have had all kinds of
crazy requests which I HAVE ANSWERED INDIVIDUALLY AND EXPLAINED OVER AND
OVER! I thought my posting was self explanatory but to many it wasn't.
Some thought I had a book. Many thought I had pictures, pictures, pictures.
NO, NO, NO!!! People got all 3 mixed up and made strange requests. I have
even had people hit "forward" with a blank email and expect me to know what
they want. And the list goes on. So I am very frustrated as well that
people don't read correctly!!!!! It has been unreal but very enlightening.
Sooooooooooo, if an administrator will contact me and give me permission, I
will be glad to put them on the website or I give them permission to put
them on the website.
I hope this solves the problem. I hope you and others NOW understand. I
will continue to send these items to people who request them from me.
One other quick note, in my original posting I told people to contact me
and I would send them directly the items which I have. I didn't think about
asking them to contact me directly. You know what they say about hindsight.
I had no idea I was going to get such a response.
Thank you for reading my explanation! Happy Hunting in 2008!!!

Hello,
I must have missed something because I don't remember seeing what e-mail this one below refers to that was sent by Jane Foley.
