Thank you for taking the time to read this. Would you know anything about a Mary Church (b. abt. 1790)? Per 1830, 1840 and 1850 census she was living in Tyler Co., Va (which was later Wetzel Co.,W.Va.). Mary appears on the census forms always listed near Henry (Hundred) Church family. She appears to have had several children. However, I can only be sure about a child named Emmaline (apparently the youngest) as she is named in the 1850 census. Mary is not to be found after the 1850 census. I believe Emmaline marries Alexander Villers. Of some interest is the information that Alexander Villers' older brother Aden (or Adam?) married a Dorcas Church (who may have been born around 1819 and died before 1850). Some of the Villers family trees state that both Dorcas Church and Emmaline Church were born in Fishback, Tyler Co., VA. I have never found any information that Dorcas and Emmaline were siblings/related. Furthermore, I have never been able to determine whether the Mary Ch!
urch referenced above was married and if so, to whom?
My GGGrandfather John C. Church b. 1827 lived in Springhill Twp., Greene Co., PA per the 1860 Census. His mother may have been named or was called Mary. Though there was a large Church family in Center Twp., Greene Co., PA in the 1800's we have never been able to establish a connection after many years of family research. I understand that Springhill Twp., Greene Co., PA is quite close to Hundred W.Va. I am interested to learn how Mary Church fit into the Hundred W.Va. Church family as there is a male child listed with her in the 1830 census that would be the right age for my GGGrandfather. Renee

Apparently Benjamin Church and Jean Church just witnessed the Reynolds deed. They probaly were friend or lived close by. I don't know who Jean Church was. I have wondered if she was Benjamin's wife. I do know that two or three Church girls married in the 1790's in Spartanburg co SC but now I can not find the entry where I found who they married. Benjamin Church went to Pendleton co SC then to Georgia. I can not find much info about him. Ross

Hi
I paid a genealogist to try and find some information about Benjamin Church and she did not find much more info than I already knew but from th Spartanburg County, District South Carolina deed abstracts Volume 1, Books A-T, 1785-1827 Benjamin Church and Jean Church witnessed a deed between Justice Reynolds and Gideon Reynolds, 14 March 1799. I don't know who Jean Church was but maybe it was his wife. I had found an entry some time ago saying his wife was named Wilburn or something similar to that. I don't know. Thanks, Ross"
-----------------------------------------------------
It appears that Benjamin CHURCH and Jean CHURCH witnessed a deed between Justice Reynolds and Gideon Reynolds on 14 Mar 1799. The deed was not actually between the CHURCH family and the REYNOLDS family. I apologize for the confusion.
Would you happen to know what this deed was about?

Hi,
I don't have first hand information re:deed. I found mention of it on the boards last night. So, I posted on the CHURCH board thinking it might spur someone's memory. I'll try to find the original post today. If I come up with something, I'll post it.

Hello,
I'm searching for a REYNOLDS link to the CHURCH family. I recall reading a post re:deed signing between Gideon Reynolds and I believe Benjamin Church. Would appreciate any information you may have to offer.

Hi Ron.....I descend from Elizabeth Church (d/o Henry & Hannah) who m. David Bland. They lived in Wetzel Co., WV all their lives if memory serves me correctly. I have visited the graves of Henry and Hannah and am happy to report that the cemetery is well cared for with easy access. There is a "write-up" in the Wetzel County, WV History book which gives some insight into their lives.
I'd be happy to exchange info with you or anyone else. I'm sorry I don't have the actual info in front of me since we're preparing for a move and I've packed that stuff.
Does anyone have any further info regarding Hannah other than her name, dates and their children? I have never been able to find their m. or her parents.
Happy Hunting!!!
Sonnie

Hello,
I believe I may have assumed the German ancestry for George Church, as the bio on him in "The Tenmile Country and Its Pioneer Families" by Leckey states that it was "probable that he came from the German settlement of Upper Frederick County, Maryland." His name is recorded in some records as "Kirk" or "Kirke", which is German for "Church" - I don't know if that was because the record taker was German, or if it was because George pronounced it that way.
Don't know if you are aware that George's wife, Jane FARIS was from Frederick Co., MD, and her parents were Joseph and Isabella FARIS/PHARES. Jane (FARIS) CHURCH is mentioned in her mother's will:
Will of Isabella Faris March 1787 Frederick Co., MD Liber GM No. 2 Folio 324
In the name of God Amen. I, Isabella Faris, widow of Joseph Faris deceased of Frederick Co. and State of Maryland, being weak in body and sound in judgement and calling to mind the mortality of my body and that it is appointed for all men once to die, I do make and ordain this my last will and Testament and first of all I recommend my soul to God who gave it and my body to the dust to be buried in a Decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors and for such worldly store as it hath pleased God to bless me with after my just debts and funeral charges is paid: - I give and bequeath in the following manner that is to say: -my son-in-law and Agnes McOney the sum of 5 shillings to be paid within one year after my decease and likewise to my son in law GEORGE CHURCH and JANE CHURCH and likewise to my son John Feris all to be paid within one year after my decease and all the remaining part to be equally divided between my two daughters, that is to say Margaret !
McAnear and Isabella Ramsey and for the management of this last will and testament I make and Ordain Joseph Ramsey and Alexander Mcnear both my sons in law Executors of this my last will and testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 27th day of March anno domini 1787.
In the presence of Thos. Patterson, Jacob Connell and James Cooper
Signed Isabella X Faris her mark
5th February 1790 in Frederick Co came Thomas Patterson and James Cooper to subscribe to being witnesses to the aforegoing last will and testament.

Hi, I am a descendent of the Church/Archer line. This is the first time that I heard the name Kirke. I had always thought the Church family was of English descent. Now, I guess I will have to rethink it.
Do you have any other information prior to what is here. I know this is marked as posted 1999.
Thanks
