Benjamin Franklin Church was born ca 1828, probalby in Middle
Tennessee, as he and his family lived in Rutherford Co. (1850) and
Coffee Co. after that. He and his wife married in Cannon Co. in 1848.
Surely someone has a Church ancestor from Tennessee during this
period of time, who had a brother named Ben / Benjamin / Franklin /
Frank. If so, please contact me.

I am just starting to research my Church ancestors. I have very little on them. Scanning through some of the messages posted to this site, I see a great similarity in first names, i.e. Richard, Joseph, Caleb, Lydia, etc.
The earliest Church ancestor I have it Richard who left his will in Norfolk Co., VA in June 1705. I do not know when or where he was born. He married Abiah Corprew and had the following children:
1. Caleb
2. Anne m. Argall Thoroughgood and then Sampson Trevethan
3. Abigail m. Jonas Cawson and then John Whiddon
4. Frances m Thomas Salley and then Richard Corbitt
5. Patience m. Captain William Thoroughgood and then Christopher Burrough
13 Mar 1754 Lydia Church Caron left her will in Currituck Co., NC. In the will she names her dec'd husband as Jacob Caron. She also names her brothers Joseph and Caleb Church and a sister Julian who married Joseph Steward.
I would appreciate help in any form that will help me connect these people.
Thanks,
Jean

I don't have a birth date, but my database shows Jan 1749. Have you seen the quote from the Tompkins Papers owned by Emily Lamoree VanRenselar via Clifford Buck, Salt Pt., New York "Barbara was descended from Richard Church of Plymouth 1633 and Capt Church who killed King Phillip in the war against that tribe." I sure would like to make that connection!

Very interesting to find out about Susannah's information of children from 1767 to 1771. Noah Bishop was born in 1771.
As to the will of Elijah Tompkins in Phillipsburgh, Westchester Co, NY vol 37 pg 159. written 28 April 1773. probated: 30 Aug 1784. will listed son Thomas Tompkins of Phillipsburgh and beloved wife Susannah Tompkins and brother Nathaniel Tompkins. as executors. Then states: testator felt more safe to add another executor appointed Noah Bishop with full power as other executors and that Noah Bishop be noticed accordingly in witness of the whole he has here unto set his hand and seal. More witnesses also signed the probate records etc. Thanks for your reply.

I think we must be speaking of different Elijah Tompkins. My Elijah was born 25 Feb 1741 and died 27 May 1831. He & Barbara Church were married 11 Oct 1772 and they had children together until 1791. I don't have records for it but I was told Susannah Travis was his first wife whom he had children with from 1767 to 1771. The will you have sounds very interesting. Would you be willing to post the portions of it that mentions the children?

Rachelle, thank you for your reply. My Wilson family also had a Machester, Bennington Co., VT connection, as well as a Woodford, Bennington Co., VT connection. White Church & Waite Church may very well be the same person. HOWEVER, I am looking for the CHURCH who married Lucy Wilson. Her sons, Calvin & Alfred Wilson were listed as nephews and two of the heirs of Lucy's brother, James Gardner Wilson in his 1872 probate in Hannibal, Oswego Co., NY. Calvin & Alfred were listed on the 1850 census of Hannibal, NY. White Church was on the 1830 & 1840 census in Hannibal, so I thought perhaps he was their father.

Okay. I know who you are talking about. It is not "my" Samuel Church of DORSET that is yours. Bennington County is very big, everyone coming out of there is not from Dorset.
In any regard, I believe that from what you describe it is likely that your Church family is from MANCHESTER. There is no White Church in my 'very large' Church data bank. His name is Waite and he and Ruth Howell were married there in 1800. His parents were Samuel and Hannah (Rogers) Church. they originated from Washington Co., RI. I hope this helps. Thanks.
Fannie Church would have been born around 1807-1812. As far as I can
tell, she was born in Hartford CT and remained there until her marriage,
at around age 20. Dates are guesses, as I have no substantive
information to help me out here.
The trip to Bennington for the birth of the third baby (the family was
in transit from CT to OH), and the naming of that baby after a Samuel
Church, suggests that the stopover was connected with her Church family
and that the patriarch might have been named Samuel.
The information about Samuel's birth in Bennington comes from his
family's Bible. However, Samuel's wife, Laura Bartholomew, claimed that
Samuel was born in Watertown NY, and her family Bible contains that
information.
Wish I knew more!
Maureen

Samuel Church's son Cyrenus first went to Ontario Co. NY between
1817-1819.
His (Cyrenus) children went to Macomb Co. MI between 1830-1840. Cyrenus
was
still in Onatrio Co. in 1860, and was in Macomb Co. ca 1863.
Back to Samuel: according the early VT censuses there were at least 2
children that I have not benn able to account for (1 male and 1 female).
Fromm the
1800 census to 1830 it gets very confusing as he had his daughter and
her family
living with him as well between marriages. However, there could be other
children as well.
When was Fannie born?

Don't know whether or not this helps, but I have a Silas Church b. 1771
in Massachusetts and must have moved to Goshen, VT where his son, Silas
was born in 1793 married Betsy West also born in Goshen, VT. Silas and
Betsy moved to Otselic, Madison Co., NY where they had several children
including my great grandfather, Franklyn who married Lydia Abbott and
they are buried in the cemetery at Lockwood, Tioga Co., NY. They had
four children; Eliza, Julia, Frank and Walsteen Aaron. Walsteen Aaron
married Ida Ann Cook and they had six children(three sets of twins). My
father, Walsteen Ernest and his twin
Wylie Dean were the oldest, b. 1897 in Nelson, Tioga Co., PA. Silas and
Betsy died in Delaware County and are buried in Treadwell, NY. Does any
of this tie in with anybody? The first Silas born in 1771
had seven children, Silas b. 1793, Lorraine, b date unknown, Marvel ca.
1793 (may have been Silas' twin), Elizabeth 1804, Thylisma 1812 and
Lysera 1821.

Did any of your Church or Wilson family end up in NW Ohio or Southern Michigan?
I have a Fannie Church Hooker (born in Hartford CT) whose son was born in Bennington and named Samuel Church Hooker.
Fannie's family origins are a complete mystery, but I'm convinced that Samuel Church and Bennington are the clues that will lead me to the answer.
Fannie and her husband ended up in Lucas County OH, on the western edge of Lake Erie. They had six additional sons--William Wallace, Lemuel Rowell, Calvin, Nathaniel, George and Edward.

Samuel Church had three children that I can identify, Sally (m. Josiah Lee
and nathan Crandall), Cyrenus whose known children were Morey Harrington Church,
John Wesley Church, Sophronia (m. Amos Beach), and Cyrenus Franklin. Your
Churchs could be related to Samuel as nieces or nephews. There was another Samuel
Church who lived in Dorset for a while at the same time as above Samuel who
moved to Fletcher, VT with his family.
I would like to know more about your Churchs in Dorset, as I can't find
positive proof where Samuel came from. Both Samuel Churchs of Dorset came to Dorset
after serving in the Rev. War in the CT militia, so I assume both came up the
CT River.
Don't know that this is of much help to you, but there seems to be a
connection to a Church and White family in Macomb co. where Cyrenus moved to. You may
have the link that ties this family together earlier than Samuel.

I am looking for information about Frank E. Church Jr. The only
information that I have is as follows:
His wife's name was Ingrid
He and Ingrid had a son who was born in Chicago on 16 August 1948.
His name is Hans Irwin Church.
Ingrid left, and went to New York sometime shortly after 1948.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
