Hi Richard
Would you have or know a Church researcher who might have some information about Benjamin Church(1763) and son of Yankee John Church. My ancestor was Jane Church who was born 1807-1810 and married Solomon Ray in 1829 in Henry co Ga and I believe she might have been the daughter of Benjamin Church but I can not find anyone who has a list of Benjamin Church's children or when they were born. Thanks, Ross

Hi
I saw your post about a book mentioning the Church family in Wilkes co NC. My ancestor was Jane Church born 1807-1810 and I believe she was probaly the daughter of Benjamin Church born 1763 in Rowan co NC and went to Wilkes co NC. He was the son of Yankee John Church who lived in Wilkes co NC. Jane Church married Solomon Ray in 1829 in Henry co Ga. Would you mind looking in your book and seeing if there is a mention of a Benjamin Church born 1763 or his father John Church who was born in 1832 I believe but I do not know where. Thanks, Ross

Hi Patrick
I read with interest your post about the research done about the Church family. It seems you might know more than most about Yankee John Church and a sincere desire to verify the information you find which I respect very mich. Would you mind, when you find time, sharing with me what you habe been able to find about Yankee John church? The reason I ask is my ancestor was Jane Church born 1807-1810 probaly in NC,SC,or Georgia and she married Solomon Ray in 1829 in Henry co Ga. I believe her father might have been Benjamin Church born 1763 in Rowan Co NC and went to Wilkes co NC and I believe he was the son of Yankee John Church. I know Benjamin church left NC and went to SC then to Ga. but I can not find anyone who has a list of Benjamin Church's children's names and when they were born. I have read Yankee John Church died in 1806 and that he died in 1811 so I do not know which is correct. Even if you do not have information about his descendants I would be very interested in w!

I'm looking for information on my Grandfather Claude Morgan Church's parents. He was born August 20, 1903 in either Richardton or Buella North Dakota, and married Rosa Llam. He settled in Sanders Montana where they had 11 children. I know his Dad was from Iowa and his Mom was from Germany. If anyone could help me out it'd be appreciated.

I am searching for information on the 4 children of Adeline Greene Church &

The family was in Lane County, Oregon from 1872 until about 1900. After that,

Thank You.

Well, I'll add a little to the disconnected bits of the "Church Family
in Michigan" puzzle, here. Fannie Church, reportedly b. in Hartford CT
abt. 1807-1810, has never turned up in any Hartford records. This
suggests to me that she may have been born elsewhere and perhaps taken
to Hartford as a child or young woman.
Fannie married in Hartford (Nathaniel Eggleston Hooker), had her first
two children in Hartford (William Wallace and Lemuel Harrison), then
gave birth to Son #3, Samuel Church, in Bennington, NY. The young
family then moved to Maumee, Lucas OH, the subject of earlier
correspondence in this thread, where they produced four more sons.
Maumee lies just south of the Michigan border, and I have hints but no
solid information on connections between Fannie Church's family and
people living in Michigan.
(This is a side-note, but it may offer some clues in the New York hunt:
There were two Benningtons, one in Wyoming County and one in Renssalaer
County on the VT border, now called Walloomsac, and I have never been
able to figure out which Bennington Fannie visited. This is too bad,
because that visit seems crucial in the search for Fannie's family. The
other Bennington, now the largest town in Wyoming County, was part of
the town of Sheldon, NY until about 1818. Interestingly, so many people
migrated from Wyoming County NY to Michigan, that the Wyoming GenWeb
site has the Michigan Death Index as a major feature.)
Hope this fills in a blank or two for someone!
Maureen

Cyrenus is not a very common name, and yet seems to pop up in the Church
family, thus I suspect a common link someplace.
Have you tried reading the earliest dated land record in the earliest
county/state you know where Cyrenus B. lived? Sometimes this will tell
you what his former residence was, and may give you a clue as to where
he was born in NY.
Cyrenus Church, b. 1793 in Vermont had two known siblings, an older
sister Sarah, and a younger brother Samuel Jr.. According to the 1790
census for Cyrenus' father Samuel there was a male under 16 and 2
females under 16. This could mean there was an older brother and another
older sister of Cyrenus. (Or they could have been younger siblings of
Samuel and/or his wife.) Your Cyrenus B. could concieveably be a
grandson of Samuel and a nephew/namesake of Cyrenus, or a nephew of
Samuel. If you find Cyrenus B.'s parents, I would like to know what you
find.
The Churchs, Beachs, and Harringtons weave a tangled web from Vermont,
to New York and then to Michigan. Won't bore you with details, but there
are many bits and pieces of information that never quite connect to make
a chain of events.
Thanks. Sandra

Cyrenus Church referred to by Mary Duke in previous message also had a son Cyrenus Franklin, born about 1848 in NY, probably Ontario Co. I have no further info about him. He may have gone by the name of Franklin/Frank Church.
Cyrenus is not a common name, so they all could be related.

that when he died, (Edward Dudley) immediately after Bacon’s Rebellion, and the family moved south to Petsworth Parish, near York River, he left the other children younger than James, Thomas, William and John, and among these younger children was Christopher Dudley, born about 1670. Further south of the York and James River section of Virginia and in the northern part of North Carolina the people were less affected by the Rebellion and land was plentiful – the country in the Albemarle section of North Carolina was just opening up for settlement. The line of travel was from Middlesex County toward York River and down the James River to Newport News and across James River into Isle of Wight and down Nansemond River to Suffolk and then to Chowan County, N.C. The great highway ran from Rappahannock River, VA to Albemarle County, N.C.
In 1704 Christopher Dudley is mentioned in the list of freeholders of Nansemond County, VA as owning 200 acres of land (quit rent roll). Prior to 1709 he moved from Nansemond County, VA to Chowan County, N.C. where he registered a power of attorney from John Church (probably his brother-in-law) of Middlesex County, VA to convey land in Chowan County, NC.
Christopher Dudley and his sons Edward Dudley, Thomas Dudley, William Dudley, Christopher Dudley, Jr and John Dudley, all of whom were born in Virginia, reared large and successful families in Onslow, New Hanover and other counties in Eastern North Carolina. Edward Bishop Dudley, Governor of North Carolina, and Ann (Dudley) Hill, wife of General William Lanier Hill of Duplin County, North Carolina, were among the descendants of Christopher Dudley, grandson of Edward Dudley.
“Richard Dudley, Son of Edward Dudley”
Richard Dudley, second son of Edward Dudley, was born about 1623 in Bristol, England. In 1645 he married Mary Seawell. In 164? He was summoned to Orphans Court in York County to file guardian report. In 1654 Thomas Sax, Rector of one of the chapels of Lancaster County, in his will, left a legacy to “Richard Dudley, second son of Edward Dudley.” In 1657 he became Sheriff of Gloucester County, VA and in 1659 he patented land on Mobjack Bay, Gloucester County, where his elder brother William Dudley resided.
In 1661, Richard Dudley, describing himself as a merchant, sold his plantation in Lower Norfolk County, Lynhaven Parish (now Princess Anne County), “Where I now live,” and all his stock and cattle and other property. In 1667 he was elected a member of the vestry of (end of page 2 of 3)…
Also looking for a Freedom Henry Church, born in CAN about 1825. Marlene

Hi again Nick - Thanks for the update!
Yes, I also have Naomi (dau of Reuben and Frances (Maxfield) Church) marrying Elkanah. Naomi's younger sister, Fanny is living with them in the '81 and '91 Census. Naomi died in Q3, 1896 and Elkanah remarried Miriam Parks. Interesting note - Fanny is still living with the family in the 1901 Census, now listed as Elkanah's COUSIN. What I haven't been able to connect is how Elkanah's grandparents (Robert and Mary Church) are related to Naomi and Fanny's grandparents (Robert and Millicent Church). Have you had any luck there? By the way, FreeBMD shows the birth of twins Naomi and Reuben in Beckenham in 1875 - I'm guessing that these are Elkanah and Naomi's children and that they both died (Herbert Reuben and Naomi Sarah Selina were born a few years later.
I have a copy of a death certificate for Mary Church Mar 8, 1841, age 89 (b approx 1752), widow of Robert Church, Carpenter. I believe this is "our Mary", mother of Ebenezer and Ezra.
Keep in touch!

Dear Pam,
Long time no contact! Hopefully this message contains some useful information for you.
I did a bit of research into Ebenezer's family (your line), and I think that Naomi Church, daughter of Reuben and Frances Church married Elkanah Church, son of Ebenezer and Selina Church (i.e was born a Church and married a Church). This is based on information from the 1881 Census (in which Naomi's birthplace is given as Netlewell). What do you think?
I have registered with www.1837online.com (which contains all the GB PRO indexes), and have found Ebenezer senior's death. It was registered in July, August or September 1882, and is in the district of Bromley, Vol. 2m., Page 194. Ebenezer's age is given as 83, which gives his year of birth as c.1799, which stacks up with the baptism in the Netteswell register.
PS I have reached a 'brick wall' , in that I have still not found Robert Church's marriage to Mary, nor have I found their children which I believe they had before those that were baptised in Netteswell (Ezra, Ebenezer, et al). First inspection suggests they moved to the parish just before the birth of William in 1786.
