The letter is dated Oct 31 1929 and the address is Los Angeles California he says he is 35 years old and single. Tina:
I am looking for information on the family of James L Church. This family can be found in the 1900 Census for Sullivan County, Indiana. The family includes James (born about 1871), James’s wife Rosanna Robbins Church, and their two sons, Joseph (born about 1897) and Jabel (born 1900).
I am wondering what happened to this family? What happened to Rosanna, Joseph, and Jabel. Is this James L Church the same man who later married Emma or Ermma Collins and lived in Vigo County, IN, in the 1910 Census?
I think that I am related to this family through Rosanna Robbins.
Thank you.
Best Wishes,
Jay T Stokes

Jeanne: please note that the comment in the Richard Warren series about that particular Joseph Church line appears to be an offhand unsubstantiated comment, and I and others just don't happen to agree with it. The other is as I stated the first Lydia Randall b.supposedly around 1690 is I believe an error carried down, repeated and taken as gospel. I will continue to try to either prove or disprove it.

This family is listed on the Bureau County Illinois 1880 U.S. census.
Using the Illinois Statewide Death Index, I can find possibly two members (not positive) of this family. There is a listing for an Arthur Ingram Church who died in Bureau County, IL in 1926 and a David F Church who died in Bureau County, IL in 1918.
Is anyone researching this family?

That marriage of Bethia to John Herst has been looked at by some of the best around and has been discounted as being "Church" The general consensus is "Cruse". Neither participant name is local and they are believed to be Irish transient travelers.
