Hi Claudine and all,
I have now traced Jonathan from Prince George's Co. MD through Loudoun
Co. and Pittsylvania Co VA where he left his daughter Elizabeth my gr gr
gr gr grandmother to Washington Co. VA where he received a land grant in
1819. I do not know why he received this grant. It is listed on the
land records searchable database at the Library of VA website. Jonathan
M. Church Senior must have been in his early seventies when he got this
land. However, this is additional land to what he had in Washington Co.
in 1812 which he must have bought sometime after 1801 when I know he was
still in Pittsylvania. Anyway, I am now trying to check the 1810
Census in Washington Co. in which one Church family appears.
Claudine, I found your ancestor in the book, REVOLUTIONARY WAR BOUNTY
LAND GRANTS by L. DeW. Bockstruck: Church, John VA Private. 2 Aug. 1783
200 acres. Also listed are
Caleb Church CT Sufferer (whatever that is)
Christopher Church NC
Daniel Church CT Sufferer
Horse N. Church CT Sufferer (This must be Horace.)
Rebecca Church CT Sufferer
Thomas Church PA Major
William Church NC
I hope that this helps someone.

Good Morning, Congrats on your success with your "brick wall." I am
wondering if, in your searches of Virginia Churches, you may have come across
any info' on my brick wall: John Christian Church, my 3rdgr grandfather. His
son Thomas J. moved to KY (Barren Co.) around 1816. John Christian Church
served in the Rev. War. (documented) and received land for his service in
Hawkins Co., TN.
He was discharged in 1783 in Winchester Co., VA and may have lived in Augusta
Co. at the time of his enlistment. Any bells ringing? Hope so.

Gustav Anjou is a wellknown fraud from the nineteenth or early 20th century.
He defrauded many people and unfortunately some of his work is still around.
Any of the well known professionals of today will tell you the same.

Hi List!
I want to report some progress on taking down my brick wall. A fifth
cousin has given me some info about our line. My fifth great
grandfather was Jonathan Montgomery Church Sr. of Pittsylvania Co. VA.
In 1785 he is on the tax list as the head of a family group of 10
people. The middle name Montgomery was culled from the marriage license
of his daughter, Elizabeth, from whom I am descended. My cousin has
traced him to Prince Georges Co. MD. He also owned land across the
Potomac River in Loudoun Co. VA. This land was visible from the shores
of PG. (I have not checked this out. I did not know that these two
counties were that close.) However, I did check the 1790 Census of PG
County and found Thomas Church and Luke Church in small households.
My cousin says that he found in LDS records a marriage for Jonathan
Montgomery Church to Alice Jacobs, daughter of Mordecai Jacobs and
Jimima Issac of PG and Anne Arundel Counties, MD. Mordecai Jacobs and a
few Issac family memebers are on the 1790 PG Census. I am going to a
genealogy bookstore to search some marriage transcriptions for these
marriages in the next two weeks. I tried microfilmed records, but some
were just unreadable. I would like to have confirmation of this
marriage.
JMC Sr.'s son, Jonathan Montgomery Church Jr. moved from Pittsylvania VA
to KY with his sister, Sarah Church and her husband Robert Price.
I want to thank the person who sent me two Maryland websites to check
some months ago. I cannot find your e-mail to thank you personally. I
guess I am still a klutz with this new technology. Please forgive my
lack of appropriate etiquette. I am very grateful to you.
I hope that this information can help someone else make a connection.
