Is anyone researching John Henry Church who came to San Francisco from Australia in the 1850's? He had a son Alford Church.

Hunches are good, but this one is not on target. My Churches were in New
York state (and possibly Connecticut) at the beginning of the 19th century,
until they came to North Carolina in the mid-1800's. My Cooks were in New
Hanover County, NC (Wilmington area) throughout the 1800's. Thanks anyway!

Searching for the parents of Joshua Church, born ca. 1813 in Connecticut or New York. Census of 1850 shows him in Otsego County, NY at age 37, married to Eliza (age 32) and with five children: Sarah (age 12), Charles (11), Andrew (10), Delos (8) and Henry (5). The 1860 census shows him in Broome County, NY (Colesville) with wife Eliza and youngest child Henry. My husband is a descendant of Charles Benedict Church (1839-1892)
Any leads will be most appreciated!
I have an Ida Culbertson -- daughter of Mollie Church and James Allen
Culbertson. Possibly a "named-after" cousin or niece of your Ida Chuch or
something. My Culbertson relatives *always* named their kids after their
favorite relatives (just to make life confusing for me I think). My Ida
Culbertson was born 22 Jan 1881 in Kenton County KY and she married Wesley
Emerick in 1901 in Kenton County. Her brothers and sisters were Louella
"Lou" Culbertson (Altman), Harold M. Culbertson, Grace Pearl Culbertson
(Reynolds), and my grandfather Earl Church Culbertson. They were all born
in Kentucky in the KY county just south of Cincinatti OH.
My Church family data is posted at

Dear Edwina, thanks, you were right this one was very interesting, I have made a few enquiries with living relatives and they have confirmed that Edward Frederick Church was brought up by his aunt, who must have been the Emily Clark you detailed. therefore Emily Clark must have been the brother of James Church.
I'd be really keen to try and find the DOB of James Church who married Sarah Goodman, although I dont know what part of Essex they were living in at the time of the 1881 census.
Thanks again for your help. could I possibly contact you directly on email? please let me know by sending me an email at simon.church(a)NOSPAMbtinternet.com (remove NOSPAM) from the email addy... thanx again

Dear Simon
Better luck this time I think - though you already seem to have found out so much more that the information below is perhaps not new to you. My imagination is running riot. No sign of James & Sarah. Is Edward living with the married sister who does not even bother to tell the census man her brother's full name? There are no Goodmans or Churchs resident in Drayton, Middx. Some Goodman family are living nearby in Great Wakering, but the rest are still in Rochford. It is all straight out of 'Great Expectations'! No Goodmans live in Shoebury. No James Church in Shoebury, but 4 other Church households: William b.1823, Hadleigh, Essex; George W. b. 1846, Southend (ie. Prittleswell), Essex; Henry, b.1847, Newbury, Berks; John, b. 1847, North Shoebury.
Here are the details from Great Wakering and Rochford:

This is a long message. I hope it is useful!
Hello:
Having just joined the list, I checked out the archives in search of Ida CHURCH, but did not find anything pertaining to the one I'm looking for. Here is the information I have:
Ida CHURCH (b 07/20/1871 probably in IN d unkn date Coles Co., IL) was the considerably younger 2nd spouse of Elias BEAN (b 07/25/1832 Carothers Twp, Clay Co., IN).
Ida was a niece of Charity CHURCH (b 03/18/1840 IN and d 03/03/1888 Mattoon, Coles Co., IL). Charity was the 1st wife of the above mentioned Elias BEAN and a daughter of Joel and Cynthia (LANKFORD) CHURCH.
The question is: which of Charity's siblings had a daughter named "Ida"? Would appreciate any and all tidbits! Thanks in advance for your assistance...
Best regards,
