Hi Maureen,
No, it is really Frink. His mother's maiden name was Frink and they named him Frink Uriah Dorrance. As to James, I have absolutely NO information other than his name on a marriage license and on their divorce documents. I have no information regarding him what-so-ever. However, I have been looking through the 1850 CT census and I have noticed that there are a few Church names that appear that are close in age. For example, I found a James Church, age 18, working in a factory in Griswold. He was living with the Weaver family (as per the census). Then I found a Lorenzo Church, age 19, also working in a factory near by living with another family. I don't know if there is any connection between them, but I found that to be interesting. I also noted that both James and Lorenzo enlisted in the Civil War, both with the 5th CT infantry.
I wish I could be more help.

This is one of the families that might have harbored my Fannie Church (b.
circa 1809), who m. Nathaniel Eggleston Hooker in Hartford CT in 1824 and

James's siblings' names? His children? Where they migrated? And is Frink
Dorrance by any chance Frank? That name is significant in my search.
Thanks!

Hey, when we're grasping at such slim straws, every tiny bit helps. Does
your Church family (that you know of) have any Williams, Wallaces, Lemuels,
Harrisons, Calvins, Samuels, Georges, or Edwards? These were the given
names of my Fannie Church's sons, and I hang onto them in the not
unrealistic hope that one will provide a clue to Fannie's family.
Best of luck with your search, and thank you!
Maureen
P.S. Two of Fannie's sons also enlisted in the CW; the others died young.

Does anyone have any information on the JAMES CHURCH who is buried at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence, RI. I am searching still for my gggranfather, James Church who was born c. 1832-35, supposedly in CT. He married Mary Elizabeth Dorrance in 1857 in Sterling, CT. The James Church I am asking about has no date of birth or death on the RI Historical Cemeteries project. I called Swan Point Cemetery and they have no other information other than he is buried in the CHURCH plot, lot #181 FUS and that he had been removed from another cemetery and interred at Swan Point. She had no dates as to the re-burial either.
If anyone has any information, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.

William being the son of William Church born Sep. 1819 and his wife Mariah, and William the son of Henry Church Jr. and Henry Jr. the son of Henry and Hannah. I found William and Sarah in the WV. Hi Steve,
I might be able to help you if you can wait about three weeks.
I have access to GRO records at out State Library. I go occasionally to research my own family.
I'll have a look for your James Church and Sarah Goodman.
If Emily was the first child I expect James and Sarah would have married about 1849. If Emily was not the first child then an extensive search might be a bit more than I am prepared to do. Hopefully she is the first and I can find the marriage with a 3 year search.
I doubt that you will get much info on James family, just fathers names, but it's still worth a try.
I'll be in touch

Hi, hope you may be able to help me, Im attempting to locate the marriage
details of James Church and Sarah Goodman. I think James Church was Born in
Iver Buckinghamshire England, I think his parents were Henry and Ann Church of Bangor's Green
James I believe was born in 1824. he and Sarah had three children (I know
of) ;
Emily J Church - was born in Drayton Middlesex in 1851 (she then married
George Clark) and they lived in Great Wakering Essex (they're on the 1881
census)
James Church from Great Wakering (evident on the 1901 census)
& Edward Frederick - mostly know as Frederick Church. once again evident on
the 1881 census as living with George Clark and Emily Clark (formerly
Church) - his elder sister he was 12 years old in 1881.
I would greatly appreciate if you can assist me on this. I'm really trying
to locate the marriage certificate/info that will state where/when James and
Sarah Goodman married and therefore will also detail both
parents...hopefully.
many thanks

we have a lot of information on our Church line, but we are still searching.

Now Im sorry about that!!! I might have missed information that I would have valued greatly by not being more open minded.
Since then Iv heard stories about Joel that makes me think that I might have been wrong about his Indian Connection.
He spent a lot of time with the Indians. sometimes living with them for months at a time.
If anybody knows anything about this, please let me know.
I cant find hardly anything on Joels last wife, Caroline Hobbs. He fathers name was supposed to have been "Plesant Hobbs", thats about as much as I know about her, Perhaps she was an Indian, or part Indian.???

My great grandfather was George W. Church and we know absolutely nothing
about him other than he married Ellen Burdick who was born in Milwaukee in

It is believed that George W. was born in New York but it is not known

Hi Donna
Thanks so much for the reply and the info. You had mentioned the Georgia Cherokee Land Lottery. Was that a lottery for Cherokees or was that a lottery for people wanting the land that the Cherokees had owned at one time. Also the Solomon Ray you found who had been rejected on the Indian rolls, would that have been a Solomon Ray born about 1811 or would that have been a Solomon Ray applying in 1924 Baker Rolls. I ask because believe it or not there were eight Solomon Ray's in the southeast US in the 1830's. Thanks Ross

My Church female who may or may not be Cherokee was Georgia Church and I don't have a clue as to her origins.
I looked up your Solomon Ray and found he was in the Georgia Cherokee Land Lottery . I looked in The Baker Roll of 1924 and found a lot of 'Ray's tried to register but were rejected because their 'Native' Ancestor had not registered. That happened a lot, especially when a female NA married a white male. Sorry I couldn't be more help. I can be reached at oneamos(a)bellsouth.net
