Does anyone have any information about GEORGE GILBERT CHURCH b. 10-16-1871 in Kentucky, d. 7-19-1937 in Wichita Falls, TX. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery in Wichita Falls. At death, he was married to Lurlie/Ludie Unknown. According to the death certificate, his father was W. A. CHURCH born in Virginia and his mother was Minerva BAFF/BAFFE/BAFP/BAPP (reading is near illegibility). His address at death is show as Port, Oklahoma.
Previously, he was married to Lula Frances Senn b. 4-11-1905 in Paris, Lamar Co., TX .
I really need information about this family.
A while back someone on this list told me about a book on the Church family.
I don't remember who wrote it, but at the time it was available at one of the
genealogy pubishing houses. This book detailed some of my GGG-grandfather,
David Church's ancesters. David was raised in Chenango Co., NY, the son of
John Church III and Ann Hollenbeck (he had siblings Ficha (McNeil) and
Bradford Church, and half siblings Sylvester, John and William. Prior to
moving to NY, the church family was in VT, and MA.
I had bookmarked the publisher, Heritage Books, Inc, and it's no longer a
valid address. I tried going into the archives, but my computer kept timing
out. Help, please!

In Bedford Co., TN, the following marriages are recorded:
Mary C. [Thompson] Church m. Benjamin A. Burks
08 18 1878 [another source says 07 21 1878]
Thomas Church m. Magie Pearson
12 16 1878
Frank Church m. Mattie Linch
08 06 1880
Because Mary Caroline Thompson Church had among her sons one
named Thomas and one named Frank [Franklin], I am curious as to whether
or not these are her sons.
If you have any clarifying information, I'd surely appreciate
it.

Should anyone else be researching the family of John Church III and Ann
Hollenbeck, I have more info about one of their sons, Bradford (I descend
from their son, David).
In today's mail, I received an envelope from the Lee Co., IL Genealogy
Society. They did a basic search for me, and I am quite pleased with the
results.
Bradford Church and his family arrived in Lee Co., IN in the fall of 1841,
from Chenango Co., NY. The names of 3 of his daughters are:
Lucy Ann, married William Ramsey
Jane E., married Henry Moore (these are the parents of Alice Moore, the 5
year old child living with Bradford and his wife in 1850)
Sylvia, married Orlando Hatch
Bradford died December 26, 1884, age 89, and is buried in Woodside Cemetery,
Lee Co., IL
Ann W. Church died Oct 9, 1884, age 86, and is also buried in Woodside.
One of the items sent to me was page from "Recollections Pioneer of Lee
County" regarding the Bradford Church family...."we have a lively remembrance
of this couple, so long interested in all that pertained to Lee Center and
her people. The lively wit and humor of the one, and the quiet geniality of
the other, endeared them to the people with whom they dwelt nearly 50 years".
there is also a paragraph written by Lucy Church Ramsey, Bradford's
daughter, detailing their visit to an area Church the day after their arrival
in Lee Co., IL.
The LCGS researcher wrote me a very nice letter, and told me about the other
items that were available for the Church family. There were several
newspaper articles, including obituaries. There was also an article
regarding Sylvester Church. The article is headlined "Left Amboy 21 Years
Ago". In a Perry Co., OH biography of my GGG-grandfather, David, Sylvester
Church is listed as his half-brother (he would be son of John III and Patty
Thayer). Another news article mentions a visit by Sylvester Church of Iowa.
If this Sylvester Church is indeed the half-brother of David and Bradford, I
will be able to place another of the Church siblings. I am sending out my
request for these articles first thing tomorrow. I will share what I find
out.

Surname: Playford
-------------------------
My mother was a Playford. Her father, Stephen Thomas Playford, and his
sister, Marion came to the US, probably as teenagers on the boat. I'd like
to know more about the Playfords in England.
While browsing through an 1871 issue of the Chicago Tribune, I came
across this obit and figured I would post in case anyone was
researching this line.
26 June 1871:
DIED-In this city, at half past 9 o'clock a.m., on the 25th inst., at
his residence, 149 Wabash-ave., THOMAS CHURCH, in the 70th year of his
age. Funeral on Tuesday, the 27th inst., at 2 o'clock p.m. from the
Methodist Church, corner of Wabash-ave. and Harrison-st. Friends are
invited.
I have no other info on this person. Hope it helps someone. Colleen

Bradford Church was the brother of my GGG-grandfather David Church, and
they moved to Chenago Co., NY as youths. I finally found Bradford in the
1850 Lee Co., IL census. His wife was named Anna, birthplace,
Connecticut. Does anyone know what Anna's maiden name was? They married
in Chenago Co., and were listed in the 1830 census. They had four
daughters at that time. They had a son, Frederick R. in 1832, who also
listed his place of birth as New York.
Thanks.

Since I have no idea what happened to my great grandfather's brothers (other
than Calvin), this could very well be a brother. Have you found your Frank
Church on a census? If so, what birthplace was listed? If he was still
in VA in 1900, that'd be the easiest place to start. This is worth our
checking out. I think my great grandfather went back "home" (Coffee Co.,
TN) from Arkansas only once after he left, and that was when his mother
died.

Surname: Church, Collins
-------------------------
I know that my grandfather Frank Church married my grandmother Nancy Collins,
in Tazewell Cty. Va. in or about 1887. My father Vanis was raised in Fenwick
W.Va. and was in W.Va. in the year 1900. My grandmother's people were from
Tazewell Va. This is all confusing, since, I know nothing of my father's
people, except his brothers and sisters. Would be thankful for any help.
Your Franklin would have been about 27 years old, in 1887. Does this sound
right?

Surname: CHURCH, THOMPSON

Benjamin Franklin CHURCH (b. TN ca 1828) m. Mary Caroline THOMPSON (b.
TN ca 1830) in 1848 in Cannon Co., TN. They had the following children,
all b. TN: John Marion (b. 1850), William (b. ca 1852), James [Thomas?]
(b. ca 1855), Franklin (b. ca 1860), and Calvin C. (b. 1862). I know what
happened to John Marion (he is my great grandfather), and I know about
Calvin C., but I've had some trouble tracking the other brothers past about
1870. Does your Frank Church fit this time/location frame?

I am trying to find out about my grandfather. His name was Frank Church
and was married to Nancy Collins. His children are, Sam, Mark, Hugh, Arthur,
Allen, Vanis, Myrtle, Becky or Rebecca. I would welcome any help, as I
know nothing about Frank's family. I do know that he was at one time in
W.Va. sometime in the late 1800's.
I am searching for information on Matthew Church. All I know is he became the second husband of my ancestor, Missouri V. Gordon 22 Nov 1883 in Cedar Co., Missouri.
Any help or information will be appreciated.
