I am searching for the parents of my ggrandfather, Thomas
Franklin Church, who was born Dec. 4, 1828, Where? I do not
know. The story is that a Church man with four sons came
from Ireland around 1810-1815 and settled in North Carolina.
Later, the sons went "to the four winds"
Thomas Franklin married Mary Ann Sanders in Obion Co. TN
on Sept. 11, 1853. They had 7 children: Amanda Elizabeth,
John Wesley, William Franklin (my granddad), James Henry,
and Thomas Houston, plus two little girls who died young. Do
you know any other Church families in your migration, or the
names of siblings that might match any of my family? I would
appreciate a reply. Sincerely, Clytice
I also found this article in the Chicago Tribune and thought I would pass
this on in case there are others seeking these Church's.
FOUND DEAD 90 MINS. AFTER HIS WIFE DIES
Joseph E. Church, 49, of 433 S. Prairie Ave, Mundelein, was found dead from
a shotgun wound in the basement of his home yesterday, an hour and a half
after his wife, Katherine, 38, had died of cancer in Condell Memorial
Hospital, Libertyville.
Two sons, Edward, 20, and Steven, 16, told Police Chief James L. Laycock of
Mundelein that their father went to the basement after calling an undertaker
and relatives upon his return from the hospital.
Another son, Michael, 9, was staying at a neighbor's home.
I found an obit for a Mrs. Jennie Church Lingle in the 25 Jan. 1933 issue of
the Chicago Tribune. I have no furthur info but thought I would share the
info in case someone else is looking for this family.

Hi, folks -
Does anyone know if the Eliza CHURCH who married Hiram HOWARD in
Menomonee Town, Waukesha Co., WI, is the same Eliza CHURCH who was the
sister of Rachel, Lloyd, Henry Thomas, and James?
There was an Eliza, daughter of George and Nancy (all three born in NY
state) born about 1836. I'm trying to find out if she is the same Eliza
who married Hiram Howard, a Civil War veteran.
Thanks!

Hello!
I need ideas, suggestions and opinions on how to set up a bank account
out of state to help with the care and cleanup of a small family
cemetery that is on private property. It is fenced with a chain link
fence and is in the middle of a pasture. I have someone there now who
has taken it upon their own free will to clean it up. The gate was
off. Ice storms had broken tree limbs that had fell on at least 1 of
the tombstones and broken it. There is other weather related damage
done to it. It is located in AR.
My idea is to send out a letter to the descendants of that particular
branch of the tree and see if they would like to donate some money to a
bank account in the area to pay someone at least twice a year to take
care of it.
If any of you are doing something like this, tell me how it is working
for you.
I'm looking forward to your answers.

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for information on Rufus Church who was living in Griswold, CT as
of the 1840 census. Also Hezekiah and Peleg Church in Bozrah, CT in the 1850
census and lastly Prentice, Seth and Amos Church in Montville, CT as of the
1830.
I'm wondering the who the family descends from and also who the children were
of Rufus, Prentice, Seth and Amos.
I'm trying to connect my James Church to one of these families. I know that
my James was born in 1832 in Gales Ferry, CT. I found James in 1850 (age
18) living with the Weaver family in Griswold. He was a factory laborer. I
also found a Lorenzo A. Church, age 21 living with the Richard Spencer
family in Griswold, also a factory worker. I'm wondering if maybe James and
Lorenzo could have been brothers.
I realize this is a long shot, but he has to belong, somehow, to one of these
families, I'm sure of it.
Thanks everyone!!
Leslie in NY

Is there anyone researching the Church family from the county of Wiltshire, England?
I am seeking relatives of George Church and Ann Couzens, both born about 1820 in England.
Their children George and Augusta Rosa were born in Marlborough Union Workhouse Preshute in 1846 and 1849. They emigrated to the US in 1850 and eventually settled in Fresh Pond/Sunk Meadow, Long Island where they had several more children.

Dear All:
Some volunteers from the society of the Daughters of the American
Revolution ( DAR) have established a wonderful new program for
users of Rootsweb. These volunteers will do lookups in their
database and records if you think one of your ancestors served
in some capacity during the American Revolution. These volunteers
have more databases that are available to them than the ones
commonly used by the search engines.
You can then also find out if others have become DAR members
by using that Ancestor. This may show you other descendants
and also provide some documentation that you may be able
to use in your application!
The process is fairly simple :
Go to the DAR message board:
There are two ways to do that:
> message boards
> topics
> organizations and societies
> DAR
Or if you want the easy way :-)
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar
Address your message as follows:
subject : DAR Lookup > surname> location > dates
In the body of the message put the information regarding
the person,
Be sure to fill out the surnames box at the bottom since the
new search engine will be keying on that item.
Leave the email response box checked and you will be
notified when the DAR volunteers respond .
Give them a week or so to get to your request.
We really appreciate their efforts.
This info can be key for:
a: joining these prestigious organizations ( DAR & SAR)
b: sending a request for the copies of the files that were
submitted and the information they have available.
Many thanks to:
Glenda Thompson DAR VIS Volunteer
Vice Chrm. Patriot Lookup
for organizing this effort and all the many volunteers that
are donating their time and effort to us instead of pursuing
their own ancestors,
Best Regards
John A Hansen
board admin.
BTW: Please forward this message to other lists and boards
that each of you are involved in.
A word of thanks to each volunteer that does this work
and especially the one that responds to your post would
probably be highly appreciated.

My AR Church family consists of John Marion Church (my great grandfather), who was born in Rutherford Co., TN, in 1850 and grew up in Coffee Co., TN. According to his obituary (which contains some obvious errors), John left Tenn. in 1866 and came to Newport, Ark., and married Mary Holden. They had a son, William, b. ca 1875. Mary either died or they divorced. John married Emily Parsons in 1882. He lived in Montgomery Co. for 12 years and at Arkadelphia for 18 years and in Saline Co. in Shaw Township for 13 years. He and his second wife had 2 sons and 3 daughters:
David Frank (killed in France WWI), Oscar, Barbara, Tennie, and Mary.

Hi everyone!
I found a Lorenzo Church born in Griswold, CT in 1829 living with a Weaver
family who owned a manufactoring company. He was a laborer for them. I
believe he is connected with my James who was living with another family in
Griswold and worked as a factory worker. There was also a Charley Church
born c. 1791 living also with a different family and worked as a laborer on
their farm.
Here is my dilemma. James Church, born 1832 in CT. is my great great
grandfather. He has left barely any paper trail and of what is there, he has
never given a clue as to his parentage. This James Church I found in
Griswold fits his profile perfectly. I began looking around at the 1840
census and found two Church families in Griswold. A Hezekiah Church and also
a Peleg Church. Both families had boys on or about the age of 5-15, so one
of these could be the family. Then I found Charley and wondered about him.
When James married Mary E. Dorrance, their first child was a boy named
Charles Uriah Church. The Uriah comes from Mary's father's middle name (his
first name was Frink - honestly - so I'm guessing they went with his middle
name which was Uriah...) With the naming practices of the times, it would
lead me to believe that James' father's name might have been Charles. But I
know one can't rely on that theory.
I know I've posted before, but I know that there are new people among us so I
thought I would try again!
Thanks for listening!
Les

I regret to inform you that there was NO Atlanta Fulton Co. GA in 1838. It was named Terminus in 1841 where the RR planned for the east/west line and north/south line to terminate. It was later named Marthasville after the wife of the RR President and then changed to Atlanta in 1849 when it was still a "blink and you miss it" size town where the train was the biggest thing for miles. You need to find his birth place somewhere else. He probable died there and lived there a very long time. Hope you have gotten more info that this already.
