I'm looking for anyone who is aware of a Katherine Church. I'm unsure whether this is a married name or maiden. She would have been in or around Greenbay, Wi on Nov. 29, 1900. She gave birth to a child (my grandfather) and put him up for adoption. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Maureen,
I don't think there is any connection - at least not one I'm aware of right
now. My paternal grandmother is Hattie Leone Church. She is the daughter of
Oliver Church and Mary E. Smith. Oliver and Mary were born in Upper Canada
(Ontario) and immigated here in the 1870's. They settled in the thumb area
of Michigan (Huron County). On the Edgar side, my folks all come from Alcona
County in Michigan. My gggrandparents (Edgars) came from Vermont to Michigan
in the 1850's. My cousin and I are working together to save time and effort
and she is concentrating on the Edgars while I am working on the Churches.
So, she may have come across a David Edgar I don't know about yet. I don't
think we had family in Texas or California, however. Way back in the 1700's,
the Churches all seem to have originated in Vermont as well. We're still
working on trying to establish a connection to one of the 5 famous Churches
of New England you probably keep reading about if you keep up with this news
group.
In my research I found that there are many Olivers and tracking history has
been tough. I did find at least 2 Oliver Churches in Ohio ca Civil War. Do
you have any Olivers in your tree?
If there is anything here that rings a bell - I'll be more than happy to get
into more detail. Other surnames figuring prominently in my background
include Barber or Barbery, Rose, Temple, Helferich, and Smith to name a few.
You want fun, try tracking William Smith. :>)
Best,
Jim

Hi - I have a Church in MO. His name is Joseph Church and he was sister
to my great-grandmother, Maria Jane Church, 1845-1917, who was married
to George W. Zimmerman, 1823-1895. They lived in Linn County, Ohio from
the time of their marriage in 1862. When Maria died in 1917 he was
living in MO. Any bells ringing?? Rita Zimmerman Guzzo

About a week ago I posted to this list an invitation to descendants of Yankee John Church to join the family web site. Several of you took advantage of this, however a few have responded and I am unable to respond to you.
If you requested admission to the Yankee John site and have not received an invitation please do the following.
1. First and last name
2. Valid email address in the body of your email not just in the address.
3. If your first name could be used by both genders please indicate your gender. It is embarrassing for me if I make a mistake.
Thanks---Dave Church

I'm still looking for the parents of James F. Church. I suspect that they
are the Hiram & Hariett Church in Kalamazoo in the 1850 census. Any information
appreciated. Please note new e-mail address.
Good morning Church-L cousins.
I would like to make you aware of a website dedicated to the Yankee John Church family. All Church researchers are welcome. This site has been up and running for some time now and has loads of information. This is a Myfamily website so it is by invitation only. We are in the process of establishing a Church family reunion next Aug. near W. Jefferson NC the stomping grounds for Yankee John and his family of 200 yrs ago. If you would like to take part in this site just send your name and email address to me at dlchurch(a)bright.net

Amos Church, a son of (Yankee John Church) was born in Va. in 1758. I have
been trying to find where John came from, who his parents were etc. If
Robert was in Va around the same time as John, its possable that they are
kin.
Several people say that John comes fron such, and such in England, and
perhap he does, but they only make the statement, offering no real data.
I think John migrated from Mass. comming through Va, and finally setteling
in NC. There were several Church's in Hadley Mass. around 1700.
