PITT County NC - Church family
Searching for anyone with the even the slightest bit of information or tiniest
clue on the Church family of Pitt County, North Carolina. They were in that
part that was cut off from Beaufort Co NC in 1757. John Church appeared
magically in Beaufort Co just before it became Pitt County. Dropped from the
sky, he did.
Some family names were:
John, Cornelius, Jesse, Isaac, Isaac Jr., Lydia, Nancy married William Spain,
Fanny, and another later John who appeared in Pitt Co census records in early
1800's. Finally William and his brother James, my ancestor, born c1824. Both
moved to Marion/Dillon Co SC circa 1857.
Other related or connected families in Pitt Co were:
Spain, Averitt, May/Mays, Joiner/Joyner.
So happy to see this list. Hope someone out there can help in this 30 years
long search.

Hello. My great auntNellie was born Nellie Lockwood in April 2, 1901 in Delhi,
NY. In 1920 she was living with her widowed mother in the Town Of Sanford,
Deposit, Broome County, NY. She married Ray (?) Church. She died March 27,
1985 at Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta NY. She was a member of the Assembly
of God Church of Oneonta. Before she lived in the Fox Nursing home, she lived
on Chestnut Street. She is buried in Oneonta Plains cemetery. I know nothing
of this Church line. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Hi Fellow Church researchers!
At long last, this list has arrived! Many THanks to the list owner for
starting it!!!! 8-)
Im researching a Warren Church b abt 1821 in Greene Co NY possibly town of
Durham. Siblings are not known.
By 1850 he is in the town of Athens, Greene Co along with wife Catherine
Van Vlack b abt 1820 in Berne, Albany Co NY, and children:
William E., Harriet, Margaret, Emily and Eliza. Total of 7 children but
only these 5 are known to me.
Other Church names appearing on this census are a Leroy and a Theodore.
Warren Church's death certificate ( died 1901in Athens) give his parents
names as being Dorus Church b in CT and Sally Folger ( appears as Sarah on
census) b in MA.
Anyone have any Dorus or Dorace Church in their info?? See any connection
to Warren???
It is theorized that this family is related to somewhat famous NY artist
Frederick Church but I have not found any connection to him - btw, he lived
across the river in Hudson NY and I have his direct line genealogy here
someplace if someone would like me to post it.

Hi,
I have just joined this list and am desperately searching for clues on my grandfather, John Bass Church b. abt. 1852. What I know is that he appears in 1900 Census in Coos Co. Oregon living with McQuigg family. In that same year he married Muzzetta McQuigg. They moved to Washington in 1901 and 4 childrren were born. On 1910 Census they were in Grays Harbor county. Soon after that they separated. On the cenus he states b. in Canada and father NY, mother Ireland. This is all I have been able to find.
Colleen
Washington
Rex,
I've dug up that information from my grandfather's cousin. Her AARON
CHURCH, born 1786 in North Carolina, Wilkes County, was the ninth
child and youngest son of JOHN CHURCH, born @1734. JOHN's wife is listed
as a MS. STAMPER? but no other information is available for her. JOHN was
married @1756, and his oldest child, AMOS CHURCH is shown as being born in
1758 in Virginia.
_However_, digging further through the same information from Grandpa's
cousin, the same JOHN CHURCH was married a _second_ time, to a JANE
ANDREWS, but no marriage date is given. Their oldest child is listed as
GABRIEL CHURCH, born 1794 in North Carolina, Wilkes County. Some of this
information is based on the 1800 Census. There is not a son named AARON
CHURCH from the marriage of JOHN CHURCH and JANE ANDREWS, according to
Grandpa's cousin. (I wish I knew _her_ name to thank her!)
The same cousin does not have a birthplace for JOHN CHURCH, but speculated
that he may have been from the New England area, since he's nicknamed
"Yankee John," just as his son WILLIAM CHURCH was nicknamed "Preacher
Billy."
Hope this helps you.

Rex,
According to the data my grandfather's cousin gave us, I'm descended from
ELIJAH CHURCH, born March 1773 in Summit, Wilkes County, NC. She also
listed a sibling AARON CHURCH, but I'd have to go digging to find if she
had any birth info on him. Their father is listed as JOHN CHURCH, and the
only info she had on him was a birth date @ 1734 and a death date of 1806
or 1807. She had no name for the mother.
Don't know if this helps or not, but seems we may be connected.

Hi Cousin Kim!
There is a bit more on Richard in "The History of Hadley,
MA" by Judd, but the best rendering I've seen by far of the
history of the Church family is "The Genealogy and History
of the Church Family in America, descended from Richard
Church of Hartford, Connecticut, and Hadley, Massachusetts"
(Whew!)
It's a typewritten manuscript that I found at the Allen
County Library in Ft. Wayne, IN! It has about 4 pages on
Richard, including his will and inventory, and several town
record excerpts. His wife's name was Ann Marsh, daughter of
Edward of Braintree, Essex, England. They were married 18
MAY 1627 in Braintree. Richard Came to Hartford with a
couple of Ann's brothers, John and Nathaniel Marsh.
The manuscript also counters the argument that our Richard
was the same as the Plymouth, MA Richard.
I am descended from :
Richard and Ann Marsh
Samuel and Mary Churchill
Samuel and Abigail Harrison
Nathaniel and Rachel McCranney
William Harrison and Jane Wood
Lovina and William Caldwell
I can send you photocopies of what I have (which goes down
through your Benjamin(3) (but I did not photocopy the part
about his descendants) if you have a problem finding the
manuscript! You probably will, since I was like you at
first, thinking where is the information on this family!
Maybe the LDS has it on microfilm!
Let me know, and send me your snail mail address if you want
a copy!
